agreed. i read this thread and i watched two currently on iplayer. it is so dreadful i personally do not know the words to describe it adequately. how did it get the go ahead? it is like an amateur dramatics society panto with 'jokes' that even a child would cringe over and the way the youngest daughter was twisitng her mouth was driving me insane. BBC are really taking the p*ss with this. It is apalling

If it was so bad, why torture yourself by watching two episodes? A few minutes would have been enough if you found it that bad. Why would anyone watch two episodes of something they found so appalling?

The Rachel Riley Corollary, a well know TV phenomena where viewers watch a TV show for no other reason than for a specific personality, character or actor.

First recognised when Countdown replaced Carol Vorderman and the viewership increased purely due to people wishing to ogle Rachel.

I waded through hours of that unmitigated mire of TV sludge known as Dr. Who to marvel upon the godess-like figure of Nicola Bryant.

I do regret that wasted hour, i should have used it constructively; perhaps inhaling anthrax spores or slicing my fingers and toes off with a rusted machete.

Have they given up on the mosque scenes and characters now? If so I think thats a mistake, there were a lot of funny scenes at the mosque and from the characters at the mosque.

Leaving Walford has done her a power of good.

Because anyone who comes on here saying they've given up on a programme after watching one episode (or worse, part of one episode) is accused of not giving it a chance.

Personally, I watched the first two episodes (if I've counted correctly) and gave up half way through the latest episode, the beautiful Nina Wadia notwithstanding.

The lead character who originally seemed just pompous and self-important, a la Tony Hancock, has turned into an insufferable monster.

Its a shame they've move the program to Manchester as we miss the street shots and the mosque and all the stupidity that could be caused in those environments which has meant its had to become more focused on the family itself and thus misses out so many opportunities to get laughs

What annoys me the most are those horrible fake accents.

Just caught up with Friday's episode and loved it once again. Alia continues to wear those tight dresses which certainly catch my attention.

Never seen it but I'm currently watching an episode on Youtube (series 3 - episode 1) and it's unbelievably poor.

ETA: turned it off. I couldn't stand another second of it.

Well yes as it is a general sitcom with characters who happen to be mainly muslims and its not gone into sell out mode where they seem so desperate to be liked that they pretty much sell out and take the mickey out of themselves like I got the impression Goodness Gracious Me was all about.


Before Citizen Khan first series started, I thought it was going to be one of those sell out programmes and for that reason I wasn't going to give it the time of day but then I saw a little bit of it, read some posts about it and It sounded like it wasn't going into sell out mode so I gave it a chance and I generally like it.

I think among people who don't like it are a considerable amount who don't want to like it come what may.

From what I've seen so far, I think there should be another series too and if the viewing figures are still at 4.5 Million all in all, then they should definetly go for another series. Even more so as Citizen Khan is a hit in India too.

I think this is a decent show. Nothing special but a bit of a laugh and good in you have nothing better to do on friday night. The ''phone in the cow'' gag from yesterday's one was hilarious. Still could be improved.

The younger daughter is a very underdeveloped character, getting very little screen time.

Also, I think the joking about ''Indian Doctors'' in yesterdays one took it a little bit too far.

People laugh at this tripe? Latest ratings sliding inexorably down to single figures. Well done BBC. A real turkey for Christmas!

I have watched this programme quite a few times just because there is nothing else on.
Last night there were 'jokes' about a mobile phone left inside a cow (I'm almost definite that I remember seeing a very similar sketch on something like The Little and Large Show about a chiming digital wristwatch left inside a cow 30+ years ago) Prince Charles having sticky out ears and a man with a ferret down his trousers (I kid you not !) - It's like watching a sitcom from the 70s ! It's almost like a parody of a sitcom - as if another show has decided to satirise how poor sitcoms are today and has come up with this. It's so unfunny it actually becomes funny as you become acquainted with old 'jokes' you remember from 40 years ago and groan as you spot the 'punchline' coming from miles away and turn to your other half and shake your head in pity at the people who have 'written' this.
Oh and that dopey wide eyed fella in the traffic warden/PCSO uniform who is putting on some peculiar voice is so annoying you can't wait for him to come on so you can hate him some more !
It really is oddly compelling. It's like when you had a loose tooth when you were a kid and it was painful as you twisted and pulled on it but you couldn't stop fiddling with it !

Adil Ray, the creator, writer and lead actor is unapologetic in his quest to create a feel good family sit-com similar to the shows he remembers from his childhood.
If it compares alongside Never The Twain or Dear John in old fashioned gentle and simple comedy then Adil will have achieved his aim.

Ray should try stepping back in a few episodes and write plotlines for the other characters.

I'm not sure what he has created is a 'feel good family sit com' - Mr Khan comes over as rude, spiteful, conniving and aggressive. He is nothing like dear old bumbling Donald Sinden in 'Never The Twain' or the sympathetic softy eponymous lead character in 'Dear John'
And that awful throat clearing noise Mr Khan does is disgusting (the very same throat clearing noise Michael Bates did as Rangi Ram in 70s sitcom 'It Aint Half Hot Mum'), if someone did that on a bus you would say to them 'do you mind !'
