I agree he was never particularly bright, but I don't think he was as bad as he was in this episode. Rather in the manner the husband in Royle Family went from a bit slow to an idiot over the course of time.

Yes I agree he's goton worse in what he knows/doesn't know. He was a PCSO wasn't he, what happened to that job? Did he quit it?

Not bad for this day and age and all the multi channels out there. I remember reading The Stage paper in the early 90's and the viewing figures never went beyond 37% for terrestial programmes back then and back then not that many people has Satelite or cable but they do now.

It's very funny with a witty script and a wonderfully disparate cast.

Reminds me of Peter Sellers' interpretation of an Indian but with less makeup.

Watching now on BBC1.

I didn't even notice there was a new Shazia

There should be room for all tastes on the BBC, but it's quite baffling how Citizen Khan keeps getting another series. and so much praise, when Ben Elton's sitcom The Wright Way (which is similar in tone to Citizen Khan, and probably a touch more sophisticated) was savaged and cancelled.

There are some funny, if old-fashioned, jokes, the script isn't hopeless. Some of the performances are good too, chiefly the main character, but some of the others are heavy-handed: the daughter's boyfriend (or husband now?), the two daughters and some periphery characters.

It's really an Asian version of something like Some Mother's Do 'Ave 'Em, a sitcom that was first broadcast 40-odd years ago.

Oh dear God - I remember the Aveline Boswell cast change - and the joey one as well in later series of Bread...

As for last night's Khan episode, it wasn't bad. I prefered the old Shazia to this new one though. I wonder what's happened to the last actress then?”

At least they changed the character to Del's uncle when Grandad died - so they had internal logic on that one..

Man this stuff is terrible. Just basic trash made for easily impressed people that would laugh at anything and everything. It's like the BBC are openly taking the mick by letting this go on

Tonights episode certainly had him going into Frank Spencer mode. I only half watched it, didn't seem to be one of the best episodes. I think they are way over doing it on Khan clearing his throat in the way he does too.

Exactly, Albert was a good replacement, just as good as Grandad if not slightly better imo. That time Del told Albert to pretend to freak out when Rodney told them he was taking another woman out was one of the funniest laugh out loud moments ever on British TV.

The new daughter is a better, more assertive character, and at least the Mother is back.

I prefered the original Shazia, she could put her foot down when she had to and done it well though she was far too doting towards Amjad and so far we're not seeing it with the new Shazia so much which is a good thing but I'd prefer the original actress to be still in the programme.

The actress that plays the mum was in theatre earlier on in the year so it might have clashed with the filming of this series.

I love that scene. You can see David Jason cracking and I think he's said that it's the most difficult scene he's filmed.

13% 'not bad'?? It's half the BBC 1 average prime time share! It's an abysmal rating.

Just another variation on "I don't like a particular show and think it should be cancelled"

Heaven forbid that people should find different things funny

It was brilliant acting and I'm so glad that David Jason held it together as I think that scene must have been the original one as the audience laughter sounded like they were seeing it for the first time. Unless they cut the recording of the laughs and used it again after a number of takes?

Seeing as you seem so up on the viewing figures, why not give me a list of the top ten viewed programmes and the per centages they get these days and for god measure the viewing figures for other sitcoms.

I'm assuming the ratings are better for this, as long as ratings are good the reviews are irrelevant. Look at Mrs Brown's Boys same idea, panned by critics but great ratings.

Personally i think it is more "Terry and June" but with added family members.
A slightly pompous man trying to impress his neighbours/ boss

I suggest you visit the ratings thread for all that ...especially if you think 13% audience share ( a rating it repeated last night, I see) 'isn't that bad'! But just for comparison Mrs Brown's Boys gets double that for repeats and over 35% for new episodes
