I must admit this does make me chuckle
"What does DNA stand for?" "Definitely Not Amjad"

Last week's episode was probably the best episode this series so far. Very funny and some good laughs.
Is tonight's the last episode of the series before the Xmas special? |

I have to sit through this because of others in the house. I can predict at least half the "jokes" before the punchline.
But the worst thing about it? That ****ing throat-clearing sound the main character makes. It makes me feel sick. |

I haven't seen them all, but I thought tonight's episode was the best I've seen.

Decent episode tonight.
Funniest part was the scene when he was getting chatted up by the young gay asian male!

I watched this week's episode because it had the brilliant Tyger Drew-Honey in it. I was amazed at how good and funny the episode was generally. It was the first time I've watched a whole episode since the first few episodes of the first series, which made me think it was rubbish.

Well this weeks episode was really funny. I gave up on it a few weeks ago but thought I'd give it another go.
Best one so far. |

I don't like this Scabby The Boyfriend thing. Converting to islam, been in Pakistani, speaks urdu. It's racist.

The way Khan backs off on being stricter with his girls is one thing that irks me about Citizen Khan. He makes such a big thing about being a tradional pakistani muslim and "Community Leader" but he doesn't seem to keen to remind his obvious breaking a lot of rules of islam daugher Alia about what she's doing wrong even when she admits to whats she's been up to. I think this is more about the programme's creator and the actor of Khan himself, Adil Ray wanting to go out of his way to be seen as a uber moderate. I think CK can have Khan as someone who gets strict with Alia while still being generally funny. Again I go back to Only Fools and Horses. While religion wasn't part of that sitcom, there were lots of bing personal arguments between Del and Rodney especially and did anyone ever say that ruined the programme? No they didn't but I think Adil Ray thinks that if they have Khan getting strict with his daughters, it will put people off but I'm of the view that if your of a religion then what's the point in trying to overlook such key forbidden acts that Alia is obviously up to? |

Some of the gags in CK could have easily fitted into into Khan's semi namesake Citizen Smith or Porridge with the messes he gets himself into and Some Mother's Do Ave Em too I think.
Some Mothers Do Ave Em bears some resemblance to it. I don't think that's a good thing. |

Best episode of the series this week, overall a bit of a patchy run but the highs are still worth tuning in for.

It's very similar to the antics of Ranji Ram, Sikh narrator and character (played by blacked-up white actor, Michael Bates) in 'It aint 'arf hot mum.' (Not much throat clearing in this clip, though. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ONBFyropETM ) |

![]() The main thing is it wasn't racist. None of the show is! (unless you count the gags about Khan not wanted to be seen by an Indian doctor etc )

How is it remotely racist?? People convert to different religions and learn other languages, all the time. They even said he had lived in Pakistan for a while, which made it a little more believable than him randomly knowing Urdu...

you are remembering it's a comedy (yeah yeah debatable etc etc) not a soap or serious drama. not sure how much comedic value it would bring, regardless of the writing, to see him lecturing his slightly wayward daughter on the error of her ways according to islam.

Nothing about this show reminds me of Porridge. There was a strong element of realism about Porridge, that was why it was so funny. It wasn't about characters behaving in a bizarre or unrealistic way. Above all, Porridge was briliantly written. Citizen Khan is very weak in comparison.

I'm replying the series, and have one left to go. Lots of big laughs each week, and I quite fancy Amjad ...
![]() It reminds me of some of the great "incompetent dad failing to understand his family" sitcoms, such as Bless This House (Sid James in the 70s) and The Simpsons. |

The whole gag is that he is not strict with his 'best daughter' and oblivious to her ways (which aren't that bad, let's be fair...). It's just one of those things that should never be dealt with. It's a totally universal gag as well, something that all fathers can relate to. |

Belatedly watched the Christmas episode and thought it the best of the series, or at least one of. With the loss of his car, seemed a bit of a full stop though?

I personally thought the Xmas special was one of the worst Citizen Khan episodes ever. Just a terrible episode, piss poor with no real laughs to be had. However i am glad it's been renewed, just ditch the Xmas episode.
