Reckon this'll go down as the Don't Scare The Hare of comedy?

That's another one I tasted the first episode of after avoiding sitcoms for years but feeling the need for some light relief. Spat it out, as with Citizen Khan, which I thought had possibilities but the acting and direction were dire, and the volume level made me wince.

Another good idea squandered by the BBC.

I don't think it is.

Wonder how long they'll keep the "I'm going to my room to study/pray/clean...when actually doing something I shouldn't be" running gag.

I found it moderately amusing at times. Will give it a chance and check it out next week too before I make my mind up.

I had a similarly so-so reaction to Mrs Brown the first time i saw it. Comedy doesn't always need to be sophisticated to be enjoyable. I think half an hour of silliness of a Monday night is a good shout from the Beeb.

P.s. I am a leftie Guardian reader

I'm aware of Adil's work. It's not the point at all, he's trying to be ironic. It just looks awful

Predictable in what way exactly? The spade was awful. I'm calling it a spade.

It wasn't clever, it wasn't ironic, it wasn't breaking fourth wall or any convention, it was badly written stretching dated guff

From what I remember 'Mind Your Language' was quite a good natured show; I certainly can't remember it being willfully nasty.

I can't quite make my mind up about this. Is it just a pile of crap, or a clever parody of those old 70's sitcoms. I did chuckle at a few of the lines, but it was almost an exercise in nostalgia.
It could become a "so bad it's good" kind of programme, but I'm not sure I will be hanging around long enough to find out.

I didn’t watch this shite (Why on earth would I?) but it’s pleasing to think this is another nail in Danny Cohen’s coffin after the debaclé of The Royal Bodyguard.

It’s amazing how rubbish like this generates pages of comment while threads about quality shows disappear off the forum with nary a reply.

Don't think it's all that bad. It had some funny lines which made me laugh. It was amusing. Some comedy shows don't even have that! I'll give it a shot next week i think.

this. I laughed a few times and that is what a comedy is all about, I always give comedies a second chance, so I'll give it another go

I thought it went far better than I feared it would. I genuinely laughed out loud several times. Then it faded as the episode dragged a bit.

It's actually a half decent sitcom, with a likeable lead and supporting cast. I just think the "sit" isn't going to register with a wide mainstream audience (contrast with Mrs Brown's), and frankly millions won't even give a sitcom unashamedly set in the Birmingham Pakistani community a chance.

It was absolutely terrible - no laughs - just in your face, stupid, overloud, stereotypical nonsense.

The humour and look of it is so infantile -

THE ONLY SLOT FOR THIS IS ON CBBC at 6pm

not 10 at night :yawn::yawn::yawn::yawn::sleep:

Perhaps people would rather slag off things they disliked than praise things they like? It would be a bit of a sad reflection if so.

I thought it was quite good.

It is supposed to be a bit of a 'pi55-take' & whats wrong with this community being allowed to laugh at themselves (something supposedly they dont do).

I'll be watching out for the next one next week.

As for comparing it to 'Mind your Language' - was that post for real???

Urrrggghh don't put that link up - some of us want to pretend it never existed. Made My Family look like Fraiser.

Gave this 20 minutes before turning off, which is far longer than I have given over to watching the recent crop of dreary "comedies" that sky have put on our screens recently.

May give it another go, see if the one liners improve......

First post.

The BBC has remade Curry and Chips - and its a terribly unfunny mess.

The trailer was horrendously off-putting, but I decided to watch the first episode in the expectation that it would have to be better than the trailer. It was worse. It was worse then the dross of the 1970s. The studio audience sounded as if they were forcing themselves to make laughing noises, just to avoid embarrassing the cast with deathly silence.

Oh yes they will, it's probably written by a leftie Guardian reader. It's unfunny because it's trying so hard to be PC and inoffensive. Cringeworthy PC garbage of the highest order.
