There were fleeting moments when I thought this could be good. It had potential. But overall the script was lazy, the gags old fashioned and the acting was over the top.

No

Isn't it like the joke in Little Britain where David Walliams vomits on people?

Also if want to call it shit that's fine (I'd give it something like 4/10 or 5/10)
but you should have watched the ENTIRE show before judging it

I found the plot boring. "Oh no, the wedding might be off...oh wait, it isn't." The characters were cliched but like others have said, I suppose that was the intention.

I might watch next week but I hope there's a funnier story.

The supposed 'white' character (who isn't Dave the Mosque manager) is Abdullah Afzal who played another Asian character Asif in BBC Three's Lunch Monkeys.

Well I liked it! It was quite silly but I did enjoy the stereotypey jokes! The only thing I didn't like was that the 'Somalian' looked nothing like a Somalian whatsoever and sounded like he was trying to force some sort of a Nigerian-type of accent. That's nothing like a Somalian accent. I guess there is a shortage of Somalian actors, to be fair.

Anyway overall I found it moderately entertaining, and very funny at times.

Is it? Lol I couldn't stand her! But at least this time round we'll be spared of her going 'Ohhhhhhhh Sunjaaaaaaay!' every five minutes!!

Is it funnier if you live in a multicultural area such as London or Bradford (serious question)

Maybe the whiteness of Northumberland makes the humour pass me by

I don't think that should have anything to do with it really. How many people can relate to the lives of those in Downton Abbey and yet look at how successful that is?

Maybe it's different for comedy than drama, but I don't see why it would be?

I laughed at the toilet roll sketch cos that is ME! Every time I stay in a hotel I take all the toilet rolls and the tea and coffee, I think it's such an Asian thing to do!

And the plastic on the sofa, that made me laugh cos it's so true, I think we did the same at one point in the late 80s but not for very long. My dad still insists on keeping the tv remote in its cellophane wrap though!

After reading some of the comments saying how bad and cliched it was I knew instinctively that I'd enjoy it.

Yep, and I've just used series record on iPlayer for the first time.

No.

Some may be saying that it's funny on an observational level, if you're from a Pakistani background you'll recognise the characters. But if you don't recognise the characters you're left with the same formulaic comedy about a pompous, self-important middle-aged man that we've seen many times before since the 1960s if not earlier. If what's different this time is that he's a pompous, self-important middle-aged Pakistani man then that's hardly groundbreaking multicultural comedy, is it?

I'm Asian and I honestly found the humour out-dated, not that I'm a comedy snob...but I do expect something more original and if not original, a lot more fresher post millennium from my sitcoms and even though full of Stereotypical references to British Asian culture e.g. the bulk buying of toilet rolls and the plastic wrap sofa, which I found amusing (because I could relate to them) - this was honestly more out-dated than comedies/drama that came before it like Goodness Gracious Me, which is embarrassing, considering GGM went out in the late 1990's...

Anyway, whether Ray watered it down for a more white British audience or not - the humour, script and acting was bad.

I made myself watch about 10 minutes but I didn't titter or smile once. One of the unfunniest things I have seen in many years.

I do remember one line that I thought was quite funny, when he proudly said..
They mentioned Pakistan seven times on the BBC news tonight..and twice in a good way !

It's getting a right pasting on BBC POV Messageboard, at least some DS posters are giving it a chance.

People live in La La Land if they think every new sit-com will be a Seinfield or a Frasier.

Seinfeld needed three seasons before getting any sort of critical acclaim. I judged last night's show on comedy alone, and it was awful. Unlike Seinfeld, I have a fair idea of how it will pan out, not least with the westernised daughter doing something she shouldn't be.

Little Mosque on the Prairie, now that had the right blend of comedy.

The toilet rolls and sofa in plastic wrap are common to ordinary working-class culture too (maybe more so in the past), so I fail to see how that is an Asian twist on things.

I'm getting the feeling that someone wanted to rewrite 1970s style sitcom and remove the inherent racism from that period. It didn't work.

Goodness Gracious Me extracted all these jokes out of Indian culture in the 1990s, it's been done. And before anyone goes on a rant about how Pakistani culture is different, they'd do well to explain why the jokes are about exactly the same things.

Why is it that defenders of alleged right-wingers always misspell existentialist?
