The Sun get funnier everyday! "Bashed By Corrie"

They just put it so they could include a little word game...

I don't see how it was bashed by Corrie exactly? Like Corrie's never got 11.3million before? lol! Corrie gets over 10 million each episode....

Whatever that Emily Smith says in a paper read by 7 year olds!

The funniest thing is they only mention Corrie once in the whole article, I swear that paper is written by monkeys.

What's more funny is that the papers criticise the BBC when they spend too much attention of grabbing ratings (like the decision to show Harry Potter at Christmas) but they then also criticise the BBC when they show something which the BBC themselves admitted was more to honour their public service broadcasting commitments rather than a ratings grabber.

They knew that One night in Bhopal would never get that many viewers - esp. against I'm a Celebrity but it was still the sort of programme that they felt needed to be shown.

In the future, these sort of programmes will just be safely slotted away on BBC 4 - where, no doubt, the papers will criticise it there because the programme didn't get as many viewers as Sky One, ITV2 etc.

Hear hear - Auntie just doing her job perhaps. Was a slightly silly article by the Sun - not many people were watching TV that night and like Huch says those ratings for Corrie were perhaps even slightly lower than average. Incidentaly I vaguely remember that chemical accident in 1984 - bloody terrible

But not getting as worse as the BBC perhaps - though that's very much debatable of course.

I'd still rather read the Sun than the Socialists dream The Guardian or The Mirror any day of the week.

It's only by referring to several sources that you manage to get the full picture; they all have their own individual agendas (TV channels included).

I can't believe people are criticising the paper. I read it, but don't take it as gospel. It is getting worst? It isn't used for "informative" reading...more easy reading when you have already heard the news 5 times over whilst getting ready for work.

Yeh I think all that article proves was that the tv audience on Wednesday was lower than usual. 9.8million is lower than average for Corrie. EastEnders regularly scored 11million and Corrie is usually between 12-13.5. The Sun making somet out of nout lol

I'm confused now...the story says Corrie got 11.3 million doesn't it? 9.8 million was the audience for Emmerdale.

The really tragedy is that people when offered a choice of serious and thought provoking porgrammes like Bhopal, Blackpool State of Play, Himalaya still go for the lowest common denomintar

When BBC offers documentaries in peak time people rather watch smae formualic drama;'s or z list celebs in a jungle

Instead of blaming BBC perhaps we should look at the population out there who are only interested in low quality TV

I was well aware of the Bhopal tragedy; I don't need a tv programme 20 years down the line to remind me of it. But that wasn't my point, which was about the licence fee.

Since when was EE on ITV? [joke dude]

BTW you'll be pleased to know that I agree to an extent with your post - ITV is a load of crap atm and has been for a while. The 2 big soaps are the pivotal exception though!!

I presume you dont watch any factual based dramas because u know all about them.

The purpose of that drama was to show the horrors that had occured

Next week there is a doc on Hungaford massacre presumbably you want watch that because u already knew what happened but have u actually heard how the people who it affected felt at the time and now

So when EE is on at the same time as Tonight with Sir Trevor McDoughnut - a show discussing contentious issues in factual based dramas of near importance sometimes to Bhopal; Hungerford - albeit on a domestic front, will you be tuning in to ITV1 at 8pm to watch that, or watch your latest intake of Walford life?
Just curious.

BTW, looks like part of this Bhopal show was fabricated

The bbc need to make its made up; it either chases ratings or it doesn't; it either shows "distinct and unique programming not available elsewhere" or it doesn't. It can't have it both ways. And yet again, you're being antagonistic and going well-off topic.

Anyway, I'd just like to get back on-topic by congratulating ITV on a brilliant ratings performance.

Why are you taking this thread so far off-topic? Pconno1 clearly stated that this was not the point he was trying to make yet you continue.

Back on topic please.

Exactly! Seeing as we have to pay a licence fee therefore fund the BBC, they should just concentrate on producing high quality programming as they don't have to chase the ratings!

Please don@t compare trashy tv of Tonight with Trevor macdonald with serious journalism. I think that prigramme is an insult to any journalist and particularly to its great predecessor World in Action( if u can remember that programme i am 29 and i do )

Tonnight is not a serious show so u may want to change the programme that u would like me to watch instead of EE on a Monday night
