Sad and a bit shocking, one tends to imagine nearly all suicides take place among the young and stressed middle aged not successful and getting on. Hopefully its not leaving some sort of scandal behind (he left a note I see).

I have driven over that bridge twice (in 2010) and being a bridge hater this one really creeped me out I have to say. Oddly enough I was having a conversation with my sister only a few weeks ago about the worst places we had ever been to and I mentioned the Vincent Thomas Bridge. Something about it. Very high for sure but I hate driving over suspension bridges.

Terrible news. Being a girl from the North East and knowing North Shields very well, we were very proud of the Scott brothers and what they had achieved. Tony will be sadly missed. RIP.

Such sad news. I've never been a Top Gun fan but Enemy of the State is one of the best conspiracy thrillers ever.

He'll be sadly missed. Top Gun was my favourite film many years ago and I've followed his career ever since.

I wonder what will happen to the Top Gun sequel now? I think that movie is doomed never to be made.

Very shocking and sad news. Tony had a real talent for the action / blockbuster movie and while I've never particularly been a fan of his oeuvre he had an undeniable eye for popular cinema.

RIP Tony.
"True Romance" and "Crimson Tide" really rocked my world!
A tragic loss of a great talent.

Sympathy and wishes also goes to his wife and two children.

Shocked to hear of this. Hard to believe he would take his life considering the success he's had. There's been strong rumours of a new Top Gun film which I assume he would have directed or been the first choice to direct it. He and his brother Ridley are two of the most succesful BRITISH directors (making Hollywood films). He is a big loss to the British film industry.

I wonder if Denzel Washington will offer some words as a tribute. Washington made several films directed by Scott. My personal favourite being Deja Vu - loved that film. RIP Mr Scott.

This is a great example of his wonderful visual style. The race scene at the end is brilliant.

Such very sad news. RIP Tony.

Such a talented man and with so much to live for with his family. Can't imagine how much he must have been suffering to take this course.

Very sad news grew up watching his movies, top gun, crimson tide, Beverly hills cop II, Enemy of the State, and then the absolute classics True Romance and Man on Fire. A true British movie making legend. RIP.

I'm actually pretty gutted about this. True Romance has been my favourite film for about 8 years now. It really changed my opinions on what I enjoyed in a film. Rest in peace Tony.
