I'm now in the market for a Freesat recorder and for a number of year have followed the Foxsat box. I thought this was the one I would eventually get. Recently I came across the Samsung and was surprised how good the spec was - but the forum reviews were not good. It looked like the hard was very good but severely let down by the software. Most things I google seem to date back to 2011 but I'm now a year on. There was talk of Samsung addressing the s/w issues and issuing firmware/software upgrades. What is this box like now in Aug 2012? From what I read of the spec if it does 'what is says on the box' it appears very much a rival to the Foxsat box. Many thanks.

Save your money it's bug ridden, wait for the next generation if you can.

Indeed, last December they promised an update to be released on May 4th and it is now nearly September and nothing but excuses from Samsung.

The only releases up to that date (July last year) were to correct very basic problems which a child of four would have noticed if they had done any testing.

It would also indicate that the folks at Freesat have zero quality control and also don't do any testing before a product gets the Freesat badge on it.

We took our Samsung back on Sunday after having it a week and so much going wrong with it, it was unbelievable. TV Guide kept locking up, It wouldn't let you watch a recording from the start if it was still recording and BBC iPlayer played for 10 minutes before returning you to the main menu.

Awful product.

Got a Humax now and so far it's running like a dream.

I had 2 of these both with numerous buggy problems, got sick of waiting for promised update and when Amazon offered me a full refund on the 2nd one I grabbed it.
I have just noticed today that an update has been issued for the Firmware on September 5th only 4 months late but I wouldn't trust it to cure the numerous bugs that this box has had since it's release.

The firmware seems to have cured the box of bugs and added a few features. Samsung say another update is on the way too.

Of course, it's taken far too long to get to this point. But I am now very happy with this box which can be got for approx £170.
