I find the best diets limit sugar ie the bad kind found in sweets, drinks, white carbs like white pasta, rice, bread, potatoes. Stick to the whole wheat / wholemeal varieties.

A low sugar / high protein diet, generally known as 'Low G.I' diet will keep you feeling full for longer and stop the craving which a sugar rush produces.

Too much salt is bad for anyone, dieting or not.

Anything that you feel you can't just have a little bit of if you want some, otherwise all food is okay on a diet, as long as it's not a massive amount of calories or fat. Like porridge is a good low GI food and it keeps you full, but if you eat loads of it, it's like any other 'unhealthy food'

Sugary food and alcohol. Pointless empty calories.

Chocolate, which has trans/saturated fat and too much sugar. Bad for a diet and bad for the skin too. Quite obviously.

Sounds like a load of bollux to me. Do you have any evidence to support what you 'heard'?

I agree on empty calories, but not sure anyone is drinking alcohol as part of a balanced diet.

rubbish, in fact certain herbs and spice are beneficial to your general health and specific issues as well. A lot of this is well known in poorer countries and is something that the west is just waking up to. Have a look on google, there is tons of information out there.

Bread and potatoes - starchy carbohydrates that make you bloat with very little nutritional goodness.

Best diet tip - eat NO carbs after 3pm and healthily the rest of the time, the weight will drop off you

I think you mean FLOUR unless you are eating chrysanthemums, and sugar, most definitely. Low carb/high fat is the way to go. Coconut oil both in your food and on your skin works miracles.

Cheese is excellent. High in protein, high in fat, virtually nil carbs.

Yes they are. If you knew about how the body works, you'd have already known this.

Anything that hits the blood as sugar (Meaning all carbs) are bad in excess and should be strictly moderated. The western world has an obesity epidemic because of people stuffing their face with carbohydrates.

Thanks for the lecture.

Any links to somewhere that confirms this?

I don't need to link you to anything, it's basic biology.

1. You eat something containing carbohydrates

2. Digested carbs enter your bloodstream as glucose (sugar)

2. You begin secreting insulin

3. Insulin tells your body to store fatty acids and prevents you from burning it as energy (because your body will always use carbs as a primary energy source)

4. Fat from your meal stays in your fat cells as triglycerides

5. Fat cells get fatter

6. You get fatter

Fat is not inherently bad for you. What makes people gain weight is consuming high fat/high carb meals like pizza, curry, chips, fry ups etc..

The controversial low carb diet is a very successful way of losing weight and it relies on eating foods high in fat and high in protein.

I'll take your word for it then, why would I need a link?

I shouldn't need to back up factual knowledge with some link. But whatever, here's a couple.

You're clearly skeptical. How about you provide me evidence to show that fat and fat alone is responsible for weight gain? Show me evidence that eating fat in the absence of carbohydrates will still make you gain weight.

It's how the human body works. It's not difficult. Insulin stores fat, and insulin is released in the presence of sugar .. which is ultimately what all carbohydrates are. Like I've said before, the western world is obese because of its sugar addiction.

I eat carbs with breakfast, lunch and dinner pretty much every day. I have bread, potatoes, rice, pasta (meaning usually one of these) with most meals. I'm a size 8-10. How am I not overweight?

I think carbohydrates = bad, carbohydrates cause obesity is far too simplistic. Rice, pasta and potatoes are the staple foods of so many diets worldwide in countries where heart disease and obesity are nowhere near as prevalent as here. The humble potato has been part of our diets for far longer than we've been an overweight nation. Those are of course complex carbohydrates, not the simple ones that many people are eating in excess.

I would not disagree simple carbs should be limited, but I think rice/pasta/potato (especially wholegrains) should be excluded, to an extent, from the attack on carbs. Although it's not quite as easy as "simple = bad, complex = good" either.

Well the difference between you and me is I just asked a question, got a rude reply and then a really arsey reply when i asked for evidence. I haven't claimed anything mate.

P.S. Here's the NHS advice on losing weight, seems they don't entirely agree with your 'obvious' claims:-
