Apple now most valuable company of all time
Apple are now highest-valued company in stock market history topping $664 and passing $666 in after hours trading. Its total market capitalization stands at $624.6bn.That beats the previous record of $622bn set by Microsoft in 1999. Microsoft is currently valued at around $257bn, down almost 60 per cent from its peak.
Apple's current valuation is higher than the gross domestic product of Hong Kong, Israel, and Singapore combined. Keep buying the iProducts and Saint Steve have a place for you in Heaven ![]() http://www.theregister.co.uk/2012/08..._company_ever/ It all reminds me of Big Time by Peter Gabriel which is also available on iTunes please give generously ![]() http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=F0FBi5Rv1ho |

Whether you're pro- or anti-Apple, you have to agree that their 'value' is completely disproportionate to what they actually do - the idea that a company that basically just makes shiny luxury goods (not a criticism, same is true of HTC, Nokia etc) is somehow more valuable than every other company is pretty weird really.

You should also note that Microsoft's value in 1999 has not been adjusted for inflation, so by comparison, they'd have been worth more.

also worth noting - if you'd bought £1,000 of apple shares 10 years ago, they'd now be worth over £100,000. if only!

It'll all come crashing down one day. Things can only go so high before the bubble bursts. I think the iPhone 5 will make it or break it for Apple.
If they churn out yet another under-powered rehash I think they'll loose a lot more custom. Also, iOS 6? It's the exact same as all the others before it, but with some new under the hood changes ["Over 200 new features" as they keep touting]. |

I used iOS 6 for while on my old iphone 4S and couldn't find any of these 200 feature. The maps if they class that as a feature was crap. It looks the same as it did since it came out years ago and i think people are getting fed up with it. Certainly the people i know who use iphones are getting sick fed up of it looking the same. They see Android who is now firmly on top changing all the time and most i know have switched and loving it. Its about time apple changed things. Although, now being the richest company, why bother when the fools flock to buy the overpriced tat over and over again.... |

However, analysts point out that the comparison to Microsoft does not take inflation into account.
In inflation-adjusted dollars, the software giant was worth some $850bn (£541.2bn) on December 30, 1999. |
