There was 'Adverts already' was trending
I click it and everyone was moaning about Adverts too early on in Dallas.

I rarely watch commercial TV live, but I just used the breaks to read this thread and look at Twitter etc. Didn't want to do so during the programme as I was gripped.

The first break was about 15 mins in wasn't it? Would have been sooner in a normal 1-hr slot, I'd have thought.

Same. And the verdict online is very positive which hopefully bodes well for week 2 retention!

Dallas was good, not outstanding, but on a par I guess with lots of other U.S dramas. I enjoyed it. I'll watch again but I can see lots of people not lasting the course - I wasn't sold on aspects of the storyline and some of the acting was a bit dodgey but nonetheless it was an enjoyable watch on a night when there wasn't that much on elsewhere (I don't see Mrs Biggs doing too well).

Also found the ads to be spaced out well which is good. In comparison some shows on Sky 1/Atlantic are unwatchable live because of the amount/placing of ads, perhaps an additional reasoning behind the big time shifts.

I didn't watch it but normaly there is a break around 10/15mins in to a normal hour-long show. I find Fives adverts go on far too long though.

Three nights is total overkill but in addition the chances are that X Factor will beat The Voice head to head that night, which would be great publicity for X Factor and a load of bad publicity for The Voice, even if the X Factor rating is lower than The Voice's Monday premiere, as the head to head will be where the interest lies. Yes XF will premiere lower than it would have done otherwise but really I can't see that NBC have much to gain and publicity wise it could do The Voice more harm than good, and possibly even help XF.”

The thing is I'm not sure why they want to boost America's Got Talent. Its the final. They don't have to worry about it for another 7 months at which point it looks like they'll have at least one new judge and be able to roll out a boat load of promotion for it. It just seems like such a short sighted and disastrous move to throw The Voice up against The X Factor at the last minute just to boost The X Factor. The whole thing is weird.

Unless of course NBC know something we don't.

Last year the other networks weren't particularly concerned by The X Factor because audience testing and tracking had all been suggesting that it wasn't going to be anywhere near as Fox had hoped or wanted. Its possible that this year the tracking is all saying exactly the same thing and that the Britney hype is amounting to nothing and they're going to use The Voice to try and kill it out of the gate. Or alternatively I suppose word could be getting through to them (and everyone else) that the show isn't any better this year than last year. In which case they're betting that people will switch over to The Voice pretty quickly or that they'll watch The Voice and ultimately not bother to catch up with The X Factor because of poor reviews and word of mouth... I'm not sure either of those options particularly ring clear. Although I don't think the Britney hype was going to produce a huge (or indeed any) up tick vs. last year anyway and it certainly shouldn't now.

And to be honest I think there's actually every chance that The Voice can win the head-to-head between the two shows. We'll see how it does on Monday and Tuesday next week but looking at both shows last season you'd probably have to give the edge to The Voice particularly for its audition shows.

I suppose the other question that has to be asked is how last minute is this? There was some head scratching when they moved Talent around a little and I'm not sure you can just produce an extra hour of auditions for The Voice from thin air. So either they've robbed themselves of an hour of content somewhere else in the run (presumably one of the Tuesday shows) or they were always planning this and announced it this late to stir up last minute hype and excitement.

I think C5 have got a winner on their hands, it was excellent.

That's lovely but however you slice it Dallas really isn't the exceptional slice of drama some are making it out to be. Not even relative to the other imports on Channel 5.

I didn't watch it this evening nor did I watch Mrs Biggs although I intend to at some point.

Really enjoyed Dallas and am now watching Mrs Biggs. So far, so good. I think both shows will do well. Which one will come out on top tomorrow? A clue I have not.

Can't remember the last US import to hit BBC1 on primetime (successfully), X-Files maybe? It'll probably work better on its sister station.

Dallas was good. Surprised other networks weren't interested. Be interesting to see if it can keep up the momentum for Channel 5.

That's lovely but however you slice it that's only your opinion. Others shared it tonight but quality is in the eye of the viewer.

That's a high guess especially with Mrs Biggs and Who Do You Think You Are on at the same time. I think the loser tonight could well be WDYTYA.

Not this evening no.

And for the record I'm not saying Dallas was terrible (although I thought it was pretty bad) just that these descriptions of it being some kind of amazing drama the likes of which hasn't been seen in years are really not true at all. Its a bog standard soap lets not pretend its the second coming in drama form.

The X Files springs to mind, but I don't think it performed as well as it could have done and was relegated to late night slots, sometimes showing two episodes in a row. I also remember them removing it mid season during the final series and then bringing it back after 4/5 months.

I think Medium was also shown on BBC1, but in a post 10pm slot?

It's not for you. But what doesn't work for you might work for other people.

The X Files became a big hit on BBC2 then when it was hot BBC1 nicked it. Then when ratings started to slip and Mulder left it went back to BBC2.

Channel5 trended tonight duing Dallas. I only normally see Channel5 trend when Big Brother launch is happening. Also I saw ITV trend for their drama too.

I think C5 and ITV 1 will have had a good night tonight. BBC 1 could well have had a hammering tonight. WDYTYA is getting stale and is more suited to an 8-9 time slot.

Yes, by the start of the fourth season it moved channels. As Martin Phillp quite rightly states, the last season went on a long hiatus -- seem to recall one episode was on BBC2 in May 2002, then the next in February 2003 on BBC1.

The Simpsons was initally on BBC1 for a few episodes, before moving to BBC2 from the second season.
