Can't remember the last US import to hit BBC1 on primetime (successfully), X-Files maybe? It'll probably work better on its sister station.
EDIT: Damages used to play out on Sunday evenings after the 10pm news - that's probably the last US series I can remember on primetime BBC1. |

BBC have very little US content now on BBC 1 and BBC 2.

And tonight at least, you are very much outnumbered! This lot (amongst many more) loved it:
Which isn't really the point anyway. |

And the BBC has committed to keeping imports largely out of primetime on its flagship channel. As discussed earlier, aside from films starting in late peak there really aren't any to speak of any more.

AlexIr, if you type in #Dallas on Twitter and read the comments, 90% are positive from thousands of tweets about it. It's not just a handful of tweets but thousands.

Dallas was good. Surprised other networks weren't interested. Be interesting to see if it can keep up the momentum for Channel 5. |

Really enjoyed Mrs Biggs tonight. Tried watching Dallas on delay but disliked it.
Also, I thought this thread has decided that social networking was not a good gauge of how popular a show is? |

Yes because a handful of tweets clearly demonstrates that more people liked it than disliked it...
Which isn't really the point anyway. On the talk of BBC and their US imports they treat them poorly a good example would be Curb your Enthusiasm on BBC 4 though Channel 4 treated it no better. A programme like that could have been a big hit if promoted better. Though DVD sales are very goof for it in the UK. |

Thousands of tweets mean nothing at all in ratings terms. |

Do note that Dallas (the original series) started out on Wednesday evenings on BBC1, before being shifted to Sunday afternoons (after the Eastenders omnibus) for the last few seasons. Ratings being the main factor; a measure Channel 5 would possibly take if interest wanes.

Most watched Channel 5 programmes ever
Code:
# Programme Date Time Audience (Millions) 1 Euro 2000 Qualifier: England v Poland Wed 8 September 1999 1900 5,630,000 2 World Cup Qualifier: Albania v England Wed 28 March 2001 1900 5,590,000 3 Independence Day Tue 7 September 1999 2100 5,410,000 Dallas, if the ratings are on a par with Ireland the average should be around 5.0m, will C5 have the luck of the Irish? |

Say it starts off at 4m, even if it lost three quarters of that, 1m would still be good for Channel 5, it is not as cut throat nowadays either as it was back then with things being dumped mid-run and things. |

Facebook is full of positive comments, Twitter is full of positive comments and US reviews of the series are very positive. Its a success get over it.
And again all this misses the point. Also the assertion that its a success is ridiculous in the context of that post. |

But there are thousands of tweets about, for example, pro wrestling from the UK every week. The main pro wrestling programme, WWE Raw, does 350 thousand viewers in the UK on a good week.
Thousands of tweets mean nothing at all in ratings terms. To counter that argument, a few of us were trying to highlight that the response online has been overwhelmingly positive. Even here on Digital Spy believe it or not. ![]() It doesn't tell us much from a ratings point-of-view, no, except maybe just maybe the drop next week won't be too massive. |

ITV drama does well and beats BBC1. Robbie barely even comments, funny that
I think ITV will have hoped for much more than 4m for its first star name Coro-led drama of the autumn season, against difficult McGovern drama on 1. What more did you want me to say? |

Wow, it's very clear a certain user didn't like Dallas, and it seems everyone has to know....
Quick question.. What are the official "primetime" hours, because I always wonder which part of an evening drags down shares etc... |

Ah yes Facebook and Twitter are literally full of positive Dallas comments...
And again all this misses the point. Also the assertion that its a success is ridiculous in the context of that post. If the show on Channel 5 drops from 4.0m to 1.5m before rebounding to 2.5m for the finale, does that make it a success in your mind because it is above the slot average or a failure because it lost viewers from start to finish? (Although in C5's case, there is a repeat on Friday which could pick up an extra few viewers for next Wednesday) |

Attentional and ITV use 19:00 to 23:00, BBC use 18:00 to 22:30 and Channel 4 I think use 18:00 to midnight.
