I'm surprised C4 didn't snap it up. They really need some more US drama imports outside of the teen stuff they have like New Girl, 90210, Revenge etc.

ITV have recommissioned Vera, Scott & Bailey and Law and Order: UK, no surprises about the first two, slightly surprised about the latter though.

They hardly mentioned it but I heard last month it was coming back but not with the whole cast. Harriet Walter and Freema Agyeman are gone.

Nooooo please don't. This makes the worst ITV can make look good. However, it would be as bad as 12 celebrities get sent to Fiji for a month in the hope love develops and no I can't mention the name of that one.
However, more seriously, pleased to see Vera recommissioned as this is a consistent performer.

EDIT: Yeah the finale had the lowest rating of just 32k in overnights. So outrated by Breaking Bad then

Anyway - always enjoy this time of year, lots of returning shows and lots of new shows.

Couldnt agree more, this is one of the best ever shows to come from the States. I love it and its a crying shame that no UK broadcaster shows it.

It was shown when it first started on FX I think before Channel 5 got the rights. It seems they put it on quite late and didnt get the ratings. The thing is, the popularity of Breaking Bad has soared because of Netflix and the rave reviews everywhere. Season by season it gets even better, take Season 4 for example. it got a score of 96/100 from Metacritic. Season 5 is even better with an astonishing score of 99/100. Its number 1, so how can any UK broadcaster overlook it. It would get great ratings.!!


Still I doubt Channel 5 will change their mind, perhaps another will show it. We live in hope!!

Does anyone please have the ratings for last nights Waterloo Road? I was wondering if it did any worse/better with them moving the drama to Scotland. =)

It's a tremendous show but I'm not convinced it can rate that well on conventional broadcast. It ought to, but it's one of those that maybe doesn't sound too interesting from the EPG description, and viewers have to invest a bit of time to get properly into it. The first season on FX could only muster a lowly consolidated average of around 100,000 which even for them is nothing to write home about.

C5 were late to the party and got their strategy totally wrong with Breaking Bad. It should have premiered first on C5, and then continued on 5USA. It needed (and deserved) maximum exposure. They ought to do this a lot more than they do as although 5USA is a popular little digital channel these days, it's best known for being the home of CSI/NCIS reruns, not for its new content. They still have a couple of original gems like Justified and Sons of Anarchy, but again, these are largely overlooked, especially the former.

Absolutely no reason why Breaking Bad couldn't be a good pickup for Sky Atlantic though which doesn't have the same pressures for ratings etc.

does not look like we have had any ratings, the TV industry is too busy paling around in Edinburgh, leaving the Work Program kid, in charge of the channels out put for a few days.

I think you raise some fair points in regards to the run on FX and 5 but at the same time I think things have changed a fair bit since then. Breaking Bad has picked up a huge amount of buzz and acclaim since to the point where I think people would be much more receptive to it than they were previously. Although at the same time I agree that its probably never going to be a particularly big player it has the potential to be a solid hit if scheduled and promoted well.

I thought at the time, and I still think now, that BBC4 should have looked at Breaking Bad as a replacement for Mad Men when they lost that. I imagine it would be substantially cheaper than Mad Men (particular if the rights are shared with Netflix) and would bring with it similar if not more positive press. But as you mention Sky Atlantic is another obvious home for it and when you look at what they have picked up its somewhat head scratching that they didn't go for Breaking Bad. I suspect that Netflix now have it probably cuts Sky out of that picture though. I can't imagine Netflix would want digital rights going to Sky. And indeed that would probably be a barrier for the BBC deal – would they want it on iPlayer? I guess not.

Aren't they being a bit naughty putting Miranda on at 8.30? Doesn't offend me, but there's a bit of smut and mild swearing. Are they just getting more relaxed about things? And that's two nights in a row I've heard "bollocks" on BBC1 before 9pm!

well it will be the weekend tomorrow, so it maybe a quiet weekend for ratings.

Well, theres X Factor tomorrow, some people get quite obsessive I guess over what ratings that show gets lol. =)

I know it is August but tonight's BBC1 schedule is particularly bad.

When In with the Flynns is the centrepiece of the evening then you know it's a bad night!
