Thanks. Interesting that WR is only down one share point since 2010, whereas the two ITV1 soaps are both 4-5 points down exc +1 (3 points down inc +1). I'd say that's a result for BBC1; but will the Scottish shark-jump harm ratings from now on for WR? On the plus side, Corrie is quitting the slot, but as has been said, what will keep Wednesdays afloat for BBC1?

Really? Rita Ora is one of the biggest new music stars of 2012. She's already had three consecutive number ones this year alone, all breaking the 100k mark in their first week. The last time such a feat was achieved by a debut act was in 2002 when Will Young and Gareth Gates both did it separately.

I'm afraid I didn't know her either. The fact that I'm so out of touch with the hit parade is a sad reminder that I'm getting older.

I havent heard much of Rita Ora either apart from seeing her in the Olympics. She sounds like one of those urban acts that mostly teens have heard of but is not that well known overall with the majority of the population. XFactor ratings could be poor once again tonight due to the Bank Holiday. It wasnt even number one show last week, that feat goes to Coro. St.

Rita Ora is not a teen act. Get out of the stone age and get on YouTube.

Rita Ora failed to even get to Eurovision in what was a dreadfully rated show; so I don't quite see any boost coming from her.
...Oh look...her first album goes on sale Monday...whats that...shes on a Sony label...

Off of judges who make no difference - has anything changed for X Factor? I see it being down week. I just don't feel theres been any sort of noise/hype at all. The R/B lead in won't help and I think Pirates will rate about 5m - so more competition.

ITV1 wasn't too bad compared to the others, meanwhile ITV enjoyed some nice digital ratings. Still Corrie had a dreadful rating. Held up better against the Olympics!

Shes had the usual PR treatment with everyone in the industry recording with her and featuring her or featuring on her singles. She'll be popular with a select group but not enough to change the ratings and I doubt enough to get anyone who would have watched to watch.

That seems rather good for a duff August Bank Holiday weekend/summer Friday slot on BBC2. And with timeshift to come.

I wonder if it won the slot?

I think you may be right, the previous worst ever top rating for terrestrial at 9pm I remember was from 2010 with Eurovision: Your Country Needs You which had 2.8m.

Watching Parade's End on iplayer now, been pretty strong so far.
Brilliant rating for BBC Two anyway. About the same as Line of Duty opened with.

Hopefully holds up as well.

Won its slot between 9 and half 9, so presumably Mrs Brown's Boys overtook it.

Great figures for The Hotel Inspector. Probably helped by people quoting the narrators innuendo puns about the hotel manager on Twitter which trended.

For the XF 16-34 demo Rita will be a big draw. 3 singles all #1 with 100k+ sold in the first week she's hot news to youngsters who follow music

I think its easily one of C5's best own programmes.

My recollection is that a Panorama special (possibly?) got 2.6m and won the slot when all 4 main channels had around the 2.5m mark.

I sometimes feel like stepping into this thread is stepping into a pair of slippers and into a cardigan

'youngsters' are one of the more diverse groups; they won't all suddenly show up and there is likely a cross between those watching X Factor and liking this weeks taste.

Meanwhile in sane world, singles have been out of date and unpopular for a very long time. Artists nearly never release along side one another, meaning theres no competition. If you get a number 1 it means your aiming at people buying singles is all.

Seriously. Justin Bieber is huge but we've seen hes not a ratings puller. No one is going to know Rita is even in X Factor.

16-34 are not a fickle group. They'll either watch the show or not. In what sense is an 18 y/o suddenly going to switch X Factor on for the first time to see Rita (whose not a big thing and most people probably couldn't name her).

A little disappointing for CBB considering the previous couple f days ratings and the fact that there was little real ratings competition in that slot. Nevertheless with +1 it may have been over 2m and CBBBOTS retained the audience very well (particularly in share terms).

Elsewhere very good figures once again for a repeat of Mrs Brown's Boys.

The interesting thing about Mrs Brown's Boys now is that the repeats are doing superbly regardless of slot. Saturday nights, Monday at 21:30 last week and Friday at 21:30 this week, and every time it has done well.

If it isn't dragged down by anything for its next series, then it should easily be looking at 6 or 7m in my view given how well the repeats are doing.

Steven Moffat said at the Edinburgh Festival this morning that they only expect half the people who will watch the forthcoming Doctor Who run to do so at the time of first broadcast, that scheduling is becoming irrelevant and that this is a good thing: "Your bookcase doesn't tell you when to read" he said, meaning tv shouldn't dictate when you watch.

So just picking up on a few things from the last couple of days...

I said a fortnight ago ITV wouldn't be too concerned about it's ratings against the Olympics as they were not much worse than any other summer. The last couple of nights at 9pm prove that.

The Voice are looking in all the wrong places for answers if they think more spinning chairs will save it, just like going live didn't save Push the Button and not being live won't save Red or Black.

C4 had better not pick up that new Vic & Bob show for series. Awful rating and the last thing C4 should be doing is giving some 80s hasbeens a commission for a rip-off of their recently (long over due) axed BBC series. This Funny Fortnight has been awful - C4 is supposed to be about breeding new talent isn't it?

Agree too they should have picked up Breaking Bad for either C4, More4 or E4 - though C4's history with that sort of show is all out in a 10pm slot in series 1, but then despite critical acclaim ratings struggle and by series 3 it's on after midnight.

Anyone know when C4 will show True Blood and More4 will air Shameless USA?

Originally Posted by C14E:

Completely forgot about it last night and had it not been for scheduling it to record a week or so ago would have missed it completely - and wouldn't really care. I suspect it'll be very good, but it was a very lazy commission.

And what happened to C4 spending the year celebrating their 30th anniversary - don't think it's been mentioned since January 2nd!

In other words it's no longer appointment to view television and people will leave it on the shelf gathering dust rather than be itching to engage themselves wiuth the latest chapter.

Mrs Brown's Boys possibly lured some CBB viewers away.

The moronic crowd was also most offputting. Anyone with an IQ more akin to a shoe size should not be allowed in, it's really that simple. As they proved last night, they are not representative of the audience as a whole.
