so 6 million tonight then
For Big Brother? I completely agree. Heather from EastEnder's exit has upset my mother greatly. It's the talk of the town.

That would be so funny, the DS servers would melt down. Or if the Pirates repeat ran it close... But that's not going to happen, remember they've got Rita Ora on to steady the ship....

Absolutely. Used to enjoy New Scotland Yard with John Woodvine and then there was Jill Gascoine in The Gentle Touch.

These were in the 9pm slots of course, where the BBC Saturday dramas tended to be earlier.
I think the Gentle Touch was Fridays, but her spin off CATS Eyes, a sort of light hearted espionage drama, was shown on Saturdays. Also you used to have escapist dramas like Robin Hood and Dempsey and Makepeace that were very popular in the mid eighties.
I do remember John Woodvine's response whenever some victim of crime offered him a drink, " No thankyou, I'm on duty".

My iPhone lacks the necessary facial expression, so the dots will have to suffice.... I could do a but that looks a little rubbish.

Waterloo Road isn't the show it was. Going to Scotland was pointless. Time to pull the plug .
I've watched it since the start, but I agree it's time for it to end now.

There seems to be an constant supply of new viewers with low expectations that will ensure that it continues to do well though, generally teenagers who like it because it's about a school and 'half the cast are fit' and 'Grantly's funny lol'. Following after EastEnders will help out.

Don't think it hasn't gone unnoticed that Robbie has predicted high for TXF tonight, so even if it increases by 1m or even 1.5m on last week, it will still be seen as poor.

Everyone has forgotten that Bank Holiday weekend traditionally has lower ratings across the board as many people have gone away, rain or no rain.

Is Rita Ora the most talented judge since...well, in a while? Not sure this is the best place to ask, but what the hell

What, the same brand of TV that has been immensely popular in recent times? (I hate it, btw. Doesn't mean it won't 'enhance' The X for its lovely, easily pleased audience, however.)
How are you defining immensely popular?

It doesn't translate to a graphic smiley; instead it just makes me look like a text-mad teenager.

Everyone buzzing about TXF on my Facebook news feed atm, last week nobody even mentioned it.
Interesting; the episode thread on this forum is very quiet.

The X Factor will not bounce back to 10m tonight; what people who are referring to the weather are forgetting is that it's a bank holiday weekend which will see any gain it would have being knocked back. Plus it bizarrely started 15 minutes earlier. It'll be lucky to hold steady week-on-week in my opinion.

didnt know that about the iPhone. Any thing else the iPhone doesn't do? colour? this is some pretty basic stuff.

ok so this isnt an iPhone chat thread.

Pirates wont harm X-Factor too much, there will be 35 minutes of X-Factor left, when it ends. It might finish off Red or Black? however.

Just staying off-topic briefly, it's not really Apple's fault, its just the way the DS site is configured for smartphone users (I think). I can't access the bold/italic/etc toolbox either.

We haven't really discussed Red or Black much this week. What would be acceptable ratings for it tonight, I wonder?

4 million, but next week it falls below 3 million when DW appears. I can't see it getting a third series.
Also TXF is whatever people think, a very popular format, particularly with women and kids. I would rather watch paint dry, but you can't argue with the ratings and in 2009 delivered a whopping 17 million peak for its final. No one is saying it's The Old Grey Whistle Test, and Cowell would be the first to say he's not looking for the next Roger Waters, but it obviously serves its audience.

Also moving slightly off topic, I was thinking of quitting here, but then realised I missed the place and a lot of people have asked for me to come back. I have decided to come back, but to try and concentrate on what I like most, comparing ratings and vintage ratings, and to avoid getting into rows with XF and CS fans.

There practically has been. Simon needs to get a grip on this show; it needs to take the same approach as Britain's Got Talent.

I wouldn't go putting any stock in anything he says, and I certainly wouldn't borrow any money from him,

The pace of the show is soporific compared to Britain's Got Talent; the judges are four separate people instead of working as a proper panel; they're trying the more light-hearted approach this week (maybe) but it's still very stilted. It's a shadow of it's former self.
