The Vaccines on BBC3 should be put on BBC1 to show The X Factor up

The death of Neil Armstrong is filling my timeline. This time last year, it'd be full of that reality show.

True true true. It's been taking itself way too seriously for far too long. Drama works if it's good drama, but on the whole it's better to be fun.

Oh yes they have disclosed this bit of info actually, we had this right moron teacher - Mr Burrell or something I think - who was trying to pretend he was Princess Di's butler or something? Anyway PJ n Duncan, bless 'em, lured him in with some (Mr) wonga, packed him in a suitcase and our slightly childish revenge commenced They've been doing the same with every other nemesis of ours ever since!

Ok should I go now

Sad news indeed.

Of course now the race will be on to see who can get the first quick turn around show on the moon landing on air...

pretty sure there was some moon docs on in the past couple of years, they will be prime for a quick repeat, and actually its possible there is a small number of shows ready for his death.

ITV has that James Masters starring drama, about the trip to the Moon, they could use that, even if it wasnt really about Neil Armstrong.

There's one about lunar conspiracy theories called something like "Did We Really Land on the Moon?" that aired a few years back but I suppose repeating that would be disrespectful to Mr Armstrong.

yes I would not repeat those, in the next two weeks.

A triple negative there - interpreting this may be part of the new super-difficult English GCSE. (I'm back on my desktop, Charnham )

Sorry, to be serious, Robbie was guilty of a wee bit of ramping there with his 10m average. I stand by my statement that TXF needs to do far, far better than last week, and I'll leave it at that.

Suggestion for X Factor spin off: Simon Cowell editing the show with his chicken pie maker. Unlike The Xtra Factor, I'd actually watch that.

ETA: I have a funny feeling XF will be up this week. And not simply because of the weather, it just feels like a better rating show.

just for the record my 6m prediction was not serious, its just the lowest prediction, I could give, without fear it might have been taken seriously.

I could see it going as low as 8 million tonight.

The X Factor episode thread barely scraped the 1000 post mark this week and that's counting those posting before the show started.

I think it could be down between the low to mid 7s this week.

How low do we reckon it'd have to go for Cowell to return? Oh how I wish...

I mentioned Peter Fincham being very defensive at the Edinburgh TV festival about XF and last week's ratings. Far moreso than seemed normal. It dispelled any doubts I had about ITV not renewing its contract next year; in fact it was almost like he is desperate to keep it as Simon is making noises to axe it.

Hey maybe XF should poach someone from Strictly for the live shows, like BGT did? Tess Daly, anyone?

I used to love Waterloo Road a few years back but it's not the creative or ratings force that it use to be. I honestly think if BBC1 tried doing another drama there it would rate better.

Everyone has forgotten that Bank Holiday weekend traditionally has lower ratings across the board as many people have gone away, rain or no rain.”

I think quite a few people writing stories about X Factor's ratings slump last week will be changing their tune tomorrow. The really nice weather of much of the country dented ratings. Cowell's shows sometimes see a dip over Bank Holiday weekends but as the weather is poor over a lot of the UK that'll see it rise on last week. That's my theory anyway.

The ratings will probably rise but they don't deserve to, they've somehow managed to create a worst show than last week's. I haven't liked the auditions since they put them in front of an audience, but this unholy blend of audition and TOWIE has made for some of the worst audition shows I've seen of any talent show.

How reliable has that been in the past? Much like Twitter traffic it's not always accurate. But if The X Factor fell this week that would be a shocker!

Those 'scenes' are just cringeworthy, right? Like watching the worst acting you could imagine. Yet all those who watch TOWIE and the like are sucked in by it, I have no doubt most of the XF audience is the same

It wouldn't bother me if they nicked Tess. She's the weakest remaining element of Strictly now that Alesha's jumped ship imo. She's perfectly nice and does a decent job, but there's just something about her that's not right.

That's very interesting; if borne out in tomorrow's figures perhaps this will be put down to the bank holiday effect, but that wouldn't stop the mutterings. Has anyone fired up their Zeebox tonight? What is that registering I wonder?

Maybe ITV are out to get XF to Red or Black levels to make sure the latter if a roaring success?

I think the first 10 episodes of Series 7, the last episodes with Amanda Burton as Karen Fisher, was the last consistently good run on Waterloo Road. It hasn't been great since, but it's still watchable.

Her sincerity? I can't stand her for this reason - far too sweet to be wholesome. And I think she's crap with a co host, whoever it is. However when she is totally alone (ish) on the Sunday results show, I have to admit she is very competent. Probably loves being the centre of attention (you're not, Tess). But yes, come on XF! Ironically they brought in Dermot from Big Brother because he was really appealing in terms of being down to earth, warm, funny, engaging etc. He's lost all of these things since joining XF.

What I find particularly confusing about The X Factor (at least over the past couple of years) is despite the fact that everyone knows another series is coming and everyone knows when its going to air and what the shooting schedule for it will be absolutely everything about the show seems to be thrown together at the absolute last second. The whole thing just seems to be a complete scramble. ITV might be better off not signing a new deal until they know all the pieces are in place for another series and can avoid a repeat of this year fiasco.
