Not a Liverpool fan (far from it!) but I personally can't wait to see the whole thing, should be a fascinating insight and should do well for Channel 5.”

Hasn't this already been done with Queens Park Rangers, The Four Year Plan?

Where the owner demands the name of all the fans booing him, or he'll sell the club.

Anyone know how well 'The Falcon' has been doing on BBC2?

I don't know about ratings but the picture quality has been terrible, scratches all over the place. I'm frankly surprised it passed whatever criteria the BBC use to determine whether a particular print can be shown.

Looked ok on my 9" 405line black & white Bush tv, with mahogany folding doors.

Ignoring the technical quality, I felt it was an interesting time slot and had possibilities....it got away from the predictable.

Family Guy has been delayed every time there's a live music event, and rightly it upsets the majority of the audience because our recordings get messed up, or because it takes another 15-30 minutes for it to appear.

It's nice to hear that wasn't the case this time.

How?
I thought TXF was on at 8pm, followed by Downton at 9pm! It will ntot be a lead-in for TXF.

Really?

I know it rates well, (and I can't wait for series 3).
But I understood it is the most expensive drama series on ITV.

In the past, X Factor has peaked extraordinarily high at 20:50 (not last year in particular, but 2010), due to not only itself but also due to Downton Abbey fans tuning in early.

trickytree1979 did some analysis on one episode last year:

- http://forums.digitalspy.co.uk/showp...postcount=1715

"OK so, if we take reach as a meaningful and easy measurement, TXF results show had a reach (3 minutes or more) of 14.2m viewers last night, of which 6.5m went on to watch at least 3 minutes of Downton as well. Downton had a reach of 12.4m so you could say (in reach terms admittedly) that Downton only really gets half its audience from TXF which makes sense considering the demographics. Looking at minute by minute migrations, it looks like in the last 5 minutes of TXF, over 6m viewers turn over to another channel, 1.5m in fact turn the TV off completely. Clearly moving in the other direction is around 4.5m who have come to ITV1 from another channel (or switched the TV on) in order to watch Downton."

"it means 14.2m different people watched at least 3 minutes of the X factor. 3 minutes is generally the standard when using the 'reach' measurement. If it was 1 minute, it would be a whopping 17m viewers but that includes another 3m people who only watched between 1-2 minutes of it. I make out the peak 1 minute audience to be 13.5m btw (excluding the +1)."

Ok, thanks for that. I just couldn't see how a show coming on after X-Factor could boost the one before it - it's usually the other way round as people seem to be slow to turn over to another channel.

It seems from the analysis that both shows benefit from each other albeit for a few minutes at the end of TXF and beginning of DA. I think the thing ITV would be most happy with is it brings a surge of people to ITV during the ad-break between TXF and DA.

That's a very good evening for Channel 5 for its standards.

Beauty and The Beast and A Touch of Cloth rated lower than I expected. Beauty and the Beast was a terrestrial premiere, thought it would get over 2million viewers. A Touch of Cloth was promoted lots by Sky so bad rating it didnt get a million.

It is, but not as strong as I was expecting. Once Upon a Time did better than I thought, the two shows around it possibly could have done better. Beauty and the Beast grew all the way through the film, why couldn't people have just tuned in from the start? Muppets. Celebrity Big Brother was down 300k week-on-week so I'm guessing Peter Kay on C4 did inexplicably well even though it was a rerun. Good for the late movie though.

Although many here are saying BBC should go in for the kill against ITV, I don't think the BBC would want to hurt some of their new shows which look to have returnable potential.

This is what I can see in the later winter months (not a lot different to the past few years):

Saturday:
BBC1
17:30 - Total Wipeout
18:30 - Strictly Come Dancing
20:15 - Merlin
21:00 - Casualty
21:50 - Lottery
22:00 - Live at the Apollo
22:30 - BBC News
22:45 - Match of the Day

ITV1
18:00 - You've Been Framed
18:30 - Fool Britannia (or similar)
19:00 - The Cube/Take Me Out
20:00 - The X Factor
21:30 - I'm a Celebrity
22:30 - ITV News
22:45 - Film/Drama Repeat

This will offer the same debates on this page. Merlin will hold up very well against X-Factor. Deep analysis of the clash between TXF and SCD. Everything on ITV will collapse against SCD while Casualty will remain down against TXF etc.

Sunday:

BBC1
18:00 - BBC News
18:10 - Songs of Praise
19:00 - Antiques Roadshow
20:00 - Countryfile
21:00 - New drama (different genre to DA)
22:00 - BBC News
22:20 - Match of the Day 2

ITV1
18:00 - Family Fortunes
19:00 - Emmerdale
19:30 - Coronation Street
20:00 - X-Factor Results
21:00 - Downton Abbey
22:00 - I'm a Celebrity
23:00 - ITV News

ITV will win night overall. DA will be scrutinised against series 1&2 ratings wise. The BBC drama will do ok, but will not rate anywhere near as well as DA. Countryfile will perform well against TXF.

Is it just me, or does it feel like every winter that comes round, nothing changes at the weekends and the same debates are re-visited here with people defending the shows they like the most against the ones they want to fail?

Think it's had 6.5m before. Solid enough for an August, and bank holiday weekend, outing.

Suspect it would have done better at 8pm or 9pm instead of midway through CWWTBAMSO. In fact, if they had saved it for a few weeks it could have both acted as a practical alternative to TXFR at 8pm and dragged a key demographic away from the first 30 minutes of DA.

I still think The Paradise will be at Sunday night pre watershed. Not too sure what they'll do with Roadshow, perhaps hold it back until Jan. Or maybe, they'll go the whole hog and fit them all in, with Countryfile at 5.30.

The previous episode, shown September 11th last year rated 6,54m and it overlapped with X Factor for half an hour.

That will be why this series was expanded to 4 episodes when the previous two series were 2 episodes.

Excellent performance last night.

Your thoughts would pan out something like this:

18:00 - Countryfile
19:00 - Antiques Roadshow
20:00 - The Paradise
21:00 - New Drama

Would 2 hours consecutive new drama be too much for one night? Would the BBC risk having 2 new drama series being dented/crushed by TXF and Downton?

Or they could go with:

18:00 - Countryfile
19:00 - The Paradise
20:00 - Antiques Roadshow
21:00 - New Drama

This could give BBC1 a very strong night as they know AR holds up well against TXF.

It'll probably time-shift a few more since both episodes will be on Sky Anytime.

Strictly results to go in too don't forget. I'd do this...

5.45 Countryfile
6.45 Antiques Roadshow
7.30 Strictly Come Dancing
8.00 The Paradise
9.00 Brazil with Michael Palin

Top schedule there!

Still #1 this morning. But this might be viewers from Friday night watching again to try and hear the dialogue. People have been complaining about very poor sound quality. Apparantly the last drama to be hit by such complaints was Birdsong which IIRC experienced quite a sharp drop in ratings between parts 1 and 2. That may be why, so quite worrying for Parade's End.

Are the ratings out? Are there any for WWTBAM and The Chase?
