Well rest assured STV have another ratings buster coming up next week, The STV 2012 Appeal with Lorraine Kelly & Mick McManus.

What they are appealing for is anyones guess, ratings, fresh ideas for programming.

Be interesting to see if interest in this episode fizzled out about half way through.

Interesting the link to the programme drew attention to this being the ninth series.

Really interesting tactic by the ABC in Australia with regards Doctor Who. Rather than airing it on Sundays at 7.30 they are sticking to last years slot of the next saturday at 7.30 BUT the episode will be exclusively online within minutes of the UK episode having aired. So it premieres Sept 2nd 5.10am and is on TV on 8th Sept at 7.30pm, and this is apparently for all the episodes.

It's actually a half decent sitcom, with a likeable lead and supporting cast. I just think the "sit" isn't going to register with a wide mainstream audience (contrast with Mrs Brown's), and frankly millions won't even give a sitcom unashamedly set in the Birmingham Pakistani community a chance.

With that in mind, I do think the Beeb missed a trick by not taking advantage of the Bank Holiday to launch it right after New Tricks - that the first 15 minutes was actually rather funny may just have snared a couple million more.

I guess it will rate around the 2m mark this week, but suspect it's headed for the 1.5m's hereafter.”

I watched most of it last night and it was OK, it wasn't great but not the worst thing i've seen in recent years. It did feel at times i was watching a sketch from Goodness Gracious Me, that could be because i loved that programme.

I suspect the key battleground tonight may have occurred in film as opposed to comedy, shaping up much better in that genre. Avatar (Film4), The Incredible Hulk (ITV2), Precious (BBC Two), Serenity (ITV1) and Airplane! (Sky1) combined to offer viewers a decent range. Lots of good movies on for the Bank Holiday.”

You clearly don't watch Mock the Week Dancc, Frankie is hugely missed, I still watch, but it has lost its edge bigtime since he left.
What a dire selection of films, If that's all the competition the comedy had, it might actually do well.

Why aren't the ratings for Aug 13 - Aug 19 on the BARB site yet?

Thanks Mike.

Do you have any ratings for last night?

Official ratings for the first episode of XF are 8.08m, puts it in #3 beaten by two episodes of Corrie.

It's not must-see for me no, but I still watch every now and again. There are far better comedians around than Frankie. All Mock the Week needs is more variety to the panel instead of the same old faces all the time.

Don't forget to add ITV1 HD.

ITV1 8,082,000
ITV1 HD 1,020,000
ITV1+1 679,000

9,102,000 or 9,781,000 including +1

Thoughts?

Before you get too excited, have you included HD?

I got them from the BARB website (they've just been put up), so the HD and +1 aren't on there.

That's OK considering the average when first reported seemed quite low, don't think anyone took in account people who were watching on HD and +1.

Why don't BARB report peaks?

They are. You need to look through the "Top 10s" for the channels.

TXF went up a decent bit but I actually expected it to timeshift more. Doesn't bode that well for it.

The overnight for episode 2 was interesting though - mainly because the peak was so much higher than the average. The average wasn't great but the peak was mildly encouraging and suggested that the earlier start affected the average. Next week it's at 8:10pm and back to 60 mins so it should be above 9m (with +1).

Good start for New Tricks. A bit lower than last year but nothing to panic about - the Bank Holiday probably dented it a bit.

The original overnights also included HD viewers. The X Factor always adds a fair bit on timeshift. It went from 8.7m to 9.7m including +1. That seems a low timeshift for the programme.
