Not surprised Person Of Interest is dropping week on week considering how awful the programme is- great shame as I had looked forward to it.

Channel 5 on a roll recently and I'd be interested to know how Wizard of Oz did yesterday? I'm feeling a solid 1 million + must have tuned in... saying that- Sundays stellar lineup of BATB and CBB didn't hit the audiences that I had expected it to.

Decent for Citizen Khan, although I can see it dropping next week due to the fact that it simply wasn't very good ( I LOVE MBB though)

ITV really need to be hitting some better ratings mid week soon. It's becoming abit desperate for them.

Now lets hope Danny Cohen does the same

Be careful what you wish for. With SCD out of the schedule Doctor Who may end up against Corrie. DW only had family fortunes to deal with last Christmas and it didn't exactly destroy it in the overnights. While SCD had to go against the much tougher Corrie.

Personally I believe Strictly kills the momentum among key demographics that BBC One has been building up all day.

I think Corrie would do worse against anything else and the BBC has been rolling over for years.

Stick it as the start to the Christmas Eve programming or something; but it doesn't fit Christmas day.


I certainly agree with having CtM in a :30 slot, it would be frustrating for ITV to schedule around it. Personally though I'd go for 8:30, but then I wouldn't have Royle Family on.

I can't see much there that will have Danny quaking.

The 8-9pm slots are appalling though!! Oh for the old ITV with half hour sitcoms, Benny Hill and The Avengers!!

You're very sure CTM will be huge, I'm not so sure. I think it would follow in the performances of Hearbeat/Doc Martin on Christmas Day rather than Downton especially as there will be an 11 month gap between series finale and Christmas special. Downton will finish mid November on a cliffhanger like last year.
The recent repeat run of CTM was pulled too I notice. I think SCD would do better in the slot than CTM. Btw my schedule leaves both out.

Against your schedule If I was ITV I would go and they would do just as well as last year imo.

Have you actually looked at what the BBC got against Corrie before SCD
I have left it out of my schedule, because i really want to see Corrie V DW. You know the show that struggles against Family Fortunes normally.

Jake CtM is huge just not much reason to watch a repeat. Cohen was trying to do what they did with Sherlock series 1 and get a decent repeat audience - even that struggled (not as much).

The fact the repeats did so poorly is only testament to the fact that CtM is very popular - even if its not as talked about as Downton. It also grew massively throughout the series to extraordinary levels. It'll at least do what it usually does, and I personally think will win the day - especially if Downton is back.

Terrible is a strong adjective. I wouldn't say it was a terrible programme at all. The performances by all have been solid and the stories no worse than any other crime procedural. It's not believable, no. But then that doesn't seem to hurt the likes of Doctor Who over here, which I don't personally get on with at all these days. There's no golden rule which says all drama must be that, anyway. It's billed as an action-based crime drama and on that level it delivers. I think the strength in the programme will turn out to be the relationship between the two leads and the back story there, and also the unique take on the case of the week, as in the subject can either be a victim or a perpetrator.

It's not going to work for everyone, but that's the same for any show. I rather think the US figures speak for themselves although of course that's no guarantee as to how it will be received over here. I'm enjoying it and I think most fans of NCIS/CSI/The Mentalist would too if they give it a chance, so C5 is the best place for it, even if they aren't as well positioned as CBS to make the case for it.

Let's see... I think it was New Year's Day 2010 when DW went up against Corrie. DW's 10.4 Million VS Corrie's 9.79 million. Also, given that it's a new female companion's debut this year, I believe DW could well rake in the viewers on the day if they're against each other. Oh, and it so ain't the 80s anymore. :P

But it's far more likely it'll be SCD VS Corrie.

You always say that but Strictly does well against Corrie and when Stricly has a hot series the Christmas special can be close to Corrie in the ratings and beat it on occasion.

I know BBC1 think Mrs Brown's Boys is too fruity to start dead on 9pm as the watershed starts. But I swear it would give a leg up to In With The Flynns if it started at 9pm.

Actually, as Christmas Day is a Tuesday ITV might be lining up a Countrywise Special, CWWTBAM and a movie - Die Another Day would be fitting.

Put something else on and it will beat Corrie in the ratings.
I know am a broken record but I think the BBC grants corrie the ratings it gets on Christmas Day, meanwhile Strictly doesn't connect to the main series, I don't see the point in watching it and I like the main series.

I went over it last Christmas, Strictly loses the previous shows ratings to Corrie and gains in the old demo, then loses the old for the rest of the night once Strictly finishes. I think a more competitive programme would do better and give the BBC One more momentum going forward against things like Downton.


A Strictly/Voice crossover would be a lot of fun though and maybe more competitive, but only on for half an hour as filler - which tbh BBC One do not need half an hour of filler this Christmas.

The thing about that Doctor Who episode was that it was the swansong of David Tennant, the most popular Doctor since Tom Baker. It was event TV and it was already on an for 50 minutes before Corrie started. And as a Doctor Who fan that watched the show put against Corrie for Sylvester McCoy's series to more or less kill it, this was a very sweet victory for The Time Lord indeed.

I agree. I know lots of people who watch Strictly every week during the main series, but don't bother with the Christmas special, which has always felt rather superfluous. Because Strictly always finishes the last Saturday before Christmas, it feels like the final is the Christmas special rather than the Christmas special itself, if you see what I mean.

The Wednesday Corrie next week should provide a decent lead-in for the rest of the night as it's Sue Johnston's debut episode.
