I was thinking that there's another drama coming in September from ITV. Homefront the drama about military wives. Now will that be on Mondays or Tuesdays I wonder?

Tuesdays will be a no-no because of Champions League football. Mondays is risky because of you-know-what on BBC1.

I say Thursdays is most likely. The Bletchley Circle is only three weeks. So Homefront, a 6-parter, can start on 27th September and be finished in time for I'm A Celebrity.

The writing credit is done at the top of the show. Simon Nye was credited.

Does anyone have any information about how the ITV News at 10.30 did compared to the current News at Ten?

Just wondering!

I'm pretty sure it was dependent on its lead-in, whereas News at Ten started off with ~2.5m in 2008 before dropping to a now regular ~1.9m nowadays. Its rarely above 2m now.

Thanks! Hmm. Was just thinking about what ITV could do - but it seems News at 10 or 10.30 flopped.

News at Eleven? I jest, News at Ten is good, but hopefully when it is revamped in January it has much more authority.

the Ex Factor thing isnt really a surprise, that said I am surprised its that low.

As for Matt Smith, that seems odd.everything else ive read suggests he is staying in the long run, still him, Arthur and Karen always seemed like a close knit cast, maybe he does not want to do it without them. Odd attitude if you ask me.

No great shock that. Most of the time that's a blessing.

Anyhow, since when was it a show primarily about singing? That's been secondary to the judges and their egos for as long as I can remember. As the likes of The Mirror should know, since they rarely focus on the actual acts in their coverage of the show (see also 'The Voice').

The problem is nowadays 1 hour dramas are the norm for both BBC and ITV, I can't see that changing anytime soon.

Is the whole ITV News look changing do you know?

The Daily Mirror seem to have looked at an interview where Matt said he won't be The Doctor forever then stretched it into a Matt quits story. When he does there will be press releases and media interviews all ready to go just like when Tennant announced he was leaving at The National Television Awards. Of course The Guardian jumped the gun and published the story early on the night before David said anything..but there you go!

Or alternatively its a completely fabricated story designed to pump up sales and cash-in on the new series about to begin.

It would be interesting to see one of both channels move the news out of that 10PM slot just to see what they'd schedule there instead. In theory I suppose ITV could try running some of their two-hour dramas 9-11 rather than 8-10 although I doubt that would do them any favours on the ratings front.

I've heard new set, music and graphics as well as a move to HD, from January. The yellow will be scrapped. (thank god) ITN goes HD in a few months but it will probably not be aired in HD until the network relaunch.

Not sure if the rumoured 6pm integrated News hour pilot is still going ahead; I know it was planned for a short trial period but it may have been scrapped.

ITV will look a whole lot different from January - from what I've been told today no stone is being left unturned to completely overhaul the brand. Even CITV is getting a new look.

It's apparently thought within the company the brand is not doing shows like Downton Abbey and others justice, and that the digital channels' identities are not strong enough.

Channel 4 are still showing Paralympics coverage rather than 'Last Leg' at the moment, I'm not sure why.

I'm also not sure how Last Leg can find enough material to fill 10 episodes either, anyone know the rating for last night's show?

that is such sloppy journalism, why are they allowed to get away with it. An interview with the current Doctor saying he wont be the Doctor forever, is meaningless, are there no Doctor Who fans who work at the Daily Mirror, or do they need me to go around there, and explain the concept of Doctor Who and regeneration.

You make that sound like he's destroyed C5 which I disagree with, I'm not sure he's improved it, but he certainly hasn't made it worse...

He shouldn't have been allowed to take it over in the first place really, as the Private Eye said.

C4 coverage is what it is and I think it still needs to find it's feet (the BBC took a good 3-4 days to get into their stride). It's no surprise the ads are the focal point of most complaints - and C4 will be quite happy with that I'm sure.”

Its reported that C4's wheelchair basketball got 3.6 million viewers at one point with 300,000 watching the extra channel. If C4 go on at this rate then ITV will have a bumpy week ahead.

The BBC have already denied the Matt Smith thing:

Merlin is filmed in France (at Pierrefonds Castle) for only 3-4 weeks a year. Most of the on-location filming is done in Wales and the studio sets are in Cardiff.

You had no problem believing the X Factor story, even though it seems implausable, funnilly enough.

Regarding the story, I expect it is calculated by only including the main set piece acts and none of the quicker auditions.

Certainly some poor ratings for the soaps last night. It does look as though Paralympics have taken some audience away from the 7pm Emmerdale and Eastenders, then followed by the added effect of Waterloo Road clashing with the ITV soaps would have dented all 3 down even further in the 8pm hour.

Bit surprised this did so poorly. Wasn't expecting a massive rating what with the similar sporting competition but 2 million would of been nice. Guess it goes to show just how much of an effect the Olympics profile did to ratings

Some decent ratings there for Ch4. I would like to see what sort of ratings the extra multichannels have been getting. Freeview channel 304 has been showing the Paralympics with no adverts or studio chat and is much more efficient to watch. I gather pay TV viewers have even more streams. There could be more viewers watching than what the Ch4 figures suggest. Hollyoaks saw no improvement though, which isn't good.

Good night for Channel 5.

Good night for Channel 5.”

I honestly dont see a future for Hollyoaks on C4, E4 maybe, but not C4.

Channel 5 has been fairly constant during all the sport, its like its viewers just dont bother with anything else, seems odd if you ask me, but ITV would kill for that right now.

Thanks. That's a decent figure for the extra multichannels. A peak of 3.6m sounds much better. Was watching the swimming earlier this evening about 6pm or 7pm flicking between the advert-free freeview 304 and Ch4 HD. I think Ch4 should bare in mind they can't have the same amount of studio chat the Beeb had because with the commercial air time as well it just makes it too little sporting action.
