4.17m (16.44%) peak last night for the Paralympics: https://twitter.com/Jake_Kanter/stat...42487611269120
Oh good to see peaks keep increasing. This Oscar controversy seems to be all over the news this morning, hopefully that will see an increase in ratings for upcoming events.

Good - but not really that spectacular compared to the Olympics, and probably in line with general expectations of 2m or so averages a night with peaks of 3-5m.

I see the increasingly desperate and ailing TXF is trying to drum up flagging interest by cashing in on the Harry/Vegas story and sending the contestants off for a week of partying, strip billiards and related chavvery, hoping no doubt it will be front page news in the red tops every day. Yawn - as if anyone cares.

Far be it for me to help out Cowell, but I'm not sure the increasing TOWIEisation of TXF is going to reverse the ratings slump.

Aled Jones is unwatchable. Don't personally rate Lorraine Kelly either. The pair of them together = eeeeek! That TOTH there is a great example of why I certainly won't be watching another second of Daybreak after 7am.

The look and feel is actually worse than it was before IMO. The onscreen graphics look poor quality for example, particularly the time and how it's aligned with the Daybreak logo.

But the 'warmer' studio might tick the boxes with the audience they are seeking as it's more in line with the more widely watched GMTV.

Actually the graphics looked remakably similar to ye olde TVAM back in Ancient times (the 80's), not excatly forward looking and why are they keeping the Lorraine show at 8.30 seems a bit strange.

Aled Jones ffs?

Did someone mistype the memo that called for the bird off The One Show (again) - AleX Jones?

Given that so few people actually watch Doctor Who live does it actually matter where the BBC air it? And that's a genuine question by the way. Sure a tiny minority of the dedicated fans will kick up a fuss about it not being on prime time Saturday night but surely increasingly the evidence suggests that actually it doesn't matter where the BBC schedule the show because people record it (presumably via series link) and watch it when they want or watch it via catch-up services and the iPlayer. And frankly if people really want it on prime time Saturday night they should try watching it live every once in a while.
Interesting discussion regarding Doctor Who, frankly I've been surprised by the negativity from some quarters about it's overnight rating when it always timeshifts very well, the bigger question is whether it needs the primetime slot I guess.
Thought you might want to know, looking at the latest data, with another day's playback viewing included, it's audience has gone up to 7.4m, so we've added another 1m. Obviously, there are usually diminishing playback factors as the days go on, but DW is a different beast to usual shows in terms of timeshifting so who knows...the opening episode of last season is still to this day the most time-shifted programme ever so dont discount anything.

It's launching in the US on October 19th, in the Friday 10pm slot on Cinemax when Sky's Strike Back finishes its run.

Interesting to see what the sex/violence/bad language quota will be like.

Haven't seen last night's Strike Back yet, but apparently the sex quota has been increased on last year's!!
It wasn't just given it's nickname, Skinemax, it did have to earn it...

Somehow I doubt the BBC would air anything even remotely close to Spartacus (Starz), thought they might air something with a similar sex/bad language/violence count to Game of Thrones (HBO) or Homeland (Showtime).
In fact, I'd assume it'll be similar S/L/V wise to Homeland. Strong, but justified, with the occasional gratuitous scenes in for good measure...

Its also not out of the question that they'll be a 'BBC cut' and a 'Cinemax cut'

Nice peak. The Oscar Pistorious race was during the 9pm hour so may have dented the BBC/ITV dramas. Wonder if that includes the multichannel studio-free simulcast.

Yes, a little underwhelming. Great by C4 standards, but I'm not sure that's really what we should be judging on.

George Gently is a solid performer and will only dip I reckon when Downton Abbey returns.

EDIT: Forgot Paralympics Closing Ceremony.

Inspector George Gently (BBC1) 8.30pm-10pm
6.08m (24.6%)

The Paralympics was the highest rated show at 9pm, apart from BBC1’s period detective drama, which only lost around 100k viewers on last week.

The Last Weekend (ITV1) 9pm-10pm
2m (8.07%) / 214k (1.16%) +1

The Blake Morrison adaptation limped across the line with an audience that was marginally on terms with last week’s 1.97m (8.79%).

The three-part series has averaged 2.37m (10.1%) viewers, well below ITV1’s slot average of 5.84m (22.29%) for the past 12 months.

Celebrity Big Brother (C5) 9pm-10pm
1.75m (7%) / 114k (0.62%) +1

Highlights from the reality show bagged Channel 5 fourth place at 9pm, only 150k behind ITV1.

Toughest Place to Be…a Nurse (BBC2) 9pm-10pm
1.58m (6.3%) / 116k (0.47%) HD

The factual format bowed out on a series high, but was rooted in last place at primetime. The three-part series averaged 1.45m (6.2%).

C4 overtaking ITV in primetime on a Sunday, traditionally a strong night for ITV, feels significant. And that was with Coronation Street in the schedule.

I think even the most hardened ITV fan would have to accept that this has been a very poor period indeed for the broadcaster and they simply have to start pulling better results out of the bag now the autumn season of programming is upon us.

Even Robbie must be getting bored, as it's less ITV v BBC and more ITV v C4/C5 at the moment !

ITV is becoming just another digital channel apart from the soaps + Factor.
What would happen if things don't improve this autumn?
And they loose the advertisers?

Any idea why this is? Are C4 showing different programming than usual?

That will likely be the case, during the BBC's last major premium cable co-production (Torchwood: Miracle Day) parts of several gay sex scenes were cut for UK audiences, though it still attracted hundreds of complaints. I can't find any info on results of any Ofcom investigation though.

I think however the BBC will be more lenient towards straight sex...

I predicted ITV1s fall to just another digital channel.

A terrifying future world where every non-soap programme is at 2m-3m

ITV1s entire concept is basically like a supermarket only selling bread / milk / crisps because they are the most popular...

Although it seems to be impacting ITV much more than the BBC or maybe even Channel 5.

''The Paralympics was the highest-rated show at 9 pm ...apart from the BBC's Inspector George Gently''

So it wasn't the highest-rated show at 9 pm at all

The Paralympics are doing very well for the channel they are on, but not well enough that they should be rating better than the ITV competition.

And ITV should not be losing primetime to a commercial rival on a night when one of their big hitters is on.
