I am with 3 mobile and have been for the last 4 years. I will continue with 3 as the service is okayish.

At present I have a nokia C7 phone. I feel symbian is some what in the dark ages. I am not interested in the Iphone. So Android os it is.

Samsung possibly but what model, would you suggest? Or other alternatives please?

You really need to say more about your usage and requirements. Even Samsung have a wide range, depending on your budget, and how you will use the phone. What capabilities are important to you?

In my view HTC are an under rated supplier. The One X and One S both look good (depending on your requirements).

If you are looking for value more than top end performance, there is also the Huawei G300 to consider.

The OP stated he isn't interested in the iPhone.

OP. How much are you looking to spend? Pretty much every Samsung Android phone will do the things you ask well.

Do you have a size of phone in mind? Are you likely to use it for watching video or playing games?

I wouldn't.

Technically it may change but, the OS is going to look the same drab and boring OS it always has.

I would recommend the Samsung Galaxy S3. If thats out your budget then the Galaxy S2 is another cracker and very hard to beat.

budget ?

There are android phones from under £50 to over £500.

Lets not start yet another Apple/Android thread. If the OP has said they do not want an iPhone lets respect that and move on.

Depending on the OPs budget:

Samsung Galaxy S3 or HTC One X - the HOX will be cheaper but most prefer the S3.

If you want a smaller screen then Galaxy S2, HTC One S or Sony Xperia S. All these will be cheaper than the two above.

As a slightly unusual alternative the Samsung Galaxy Note is a bargain now or wait for the Note 2 later in the month.

I think we need a budget and preferred screen size.

I'm on contract so I would be paying out right for the phone. 3 should be able to come in at around £25.00 for my requirements.

No Games and probably only watch you tube. Screen size about 3 - 4"

I don't want an Iphone!

Was looking at the HTC One before that apears to have decent specs.

The One S is the smaller phone. The One X is larger than 4"

If you want less than 4" in a Samsung phone, then check out the Galaxy Ace 2.

HTC One S. Appears to be catching my eye at the moment.

If you're not worried about having a huge number of apps, and you like Nomia's build quality, why not take a look at the Nokia 710 or 610? (oddly, the 610 is the newer-not necessarily better-version). I have a 710. nice camera, fast processor, great for maps and internet, and the Windows phone 7 O.S is really easy and intuitive to use.

It's free on 3 from £13 a month, obviously you'll know what you need for minutes, texts, data etc.

The one s is 4.3 inches so would you be happy with that size as you said 3-4 inches previously.

Screen size will limit your choices so you need to be sure there.

Yeah I would be Happy with that size screen.

My wife got a One S a few weeks ago and is very happy. It's super slim and light, so although it has a bigger screen than she really wanted, she's fallen in love with it very quickly.

You really need to play with whatever phone you pick before you buy. I'm a huge fan of the HTC Sense GUI and I think it makes their products much easier to use than Samsung's, but it might just be what I'm used to.

Samsung is certainly the most popular vendor these days, but that doesn't necessarily mean they are the best or best value.

I have decided to move to Tesco Mobile. The plans are appear more apealing than 3.

The one s is the cheapest on three at the moment with their ultimate 500 plan. Pretty good price for an excellent phone. I recommend the one s as well. Really smooth easy to use phone with a really good battery life and software.

I would put Windows Phone into the mix with Android. For £100-odd, you can get a smooth, slick, easy-to-use phone that does all you want - the Nokia Lumia 710, it has the best email client IMO, solid browser, decent camera (the three best cameras on phones are the Nokia Pureview 808, the Nokia N8 and iPhone 4S).

But, you really should wait and not upgrade just now. In the first two weeks of September, lots of announcements are expected - the new Nokia Lumias, The Samsung Note 2, Amazon may put out their own phone, Motorola will announce something, Apple will announce something.

I rang 3 the other day.

The 1st agent did not have clue. I told him what I wanted HTC One S. 500 mins and 5000 texts. 1GB internet and 3 to 3 minutes. (My parents are on 3 also)
He kept putting me on hold and returning saying that deal was not availible to me. My reply was I have it at the moment and I have been with you for 4 years. I in total I spent over 10mins on hold before I become bored and hung up.

I rang back and the 2nd agent for some reason presumed I wanted a 2nd contract. Because I asked for the 3 to 3 mins. Then she cut me off.

3rd agent, Insisted I should take the one plan with the Samsung Galaxy S2. When he finally agreed I could have the deal and handset I wanted. for some reason he calculated and early upgrade fee and said he would waiver 50% for loyalty! Hey? I am out of contract!!

So, I think it would be easier to leave if that is the service to expect going forward.

I will look at the Tesco deals next week.

Just go to a three store, much better service than on the phone every time i'm there.

But like i said, the HTC One S or Galaxy S2 are great phones, Also check out the Galaxy S Advance & Galaxy Ace 2. They're mid range phone which is a bit cheaper. (well should be)

I suggest going to youtube and watching some reviews, or going into any phone store and asking to view a demo of the phone. This way you can see the phone and know the features.

One poster mentioned windows phone, which is good, but there are not many windows phone equivalents to phones like the S2 and One S (for cheap), only low end/mid range ones. Also they do not have the number of apps/free apps that android has.

I would say One S is the best out of the lot above. I don't see why you need to wait, it's not as if the One S is going to drop below £20 (on a high end tariff) any time soon + all the new phones that come out will start at a very high price plus probably have much larger screens which is not what you're looking for from what i can gather.

EDIT: Just checked 3 website and S Advance and Ace 2 are very overpriced for what you get. Infact the Galaxy S2 and One S are cheaper on some tariffs which is quite weird. I do recommend going for either of those phones as they are both excellent and very top end but within your budget and much improved in every way over the C7 you had before.
