How are Girls Aloud a power group? Or One Direction?

They make the question unanswerable.

There isn't really any "groups" or "bands" that grabbed the headlines in the 00's. It was very much a decade for solo singers. Girls Aloud are the closest that come to that

Weren't Depeche Mode quite underrated in the UK back in the 80s?

No, they're overrated now.

Duran Duran had similar success in America that 1D are having now.

Or maybe Queen?

Pretty much, and Coldplay have to feature too, surely you need a band that produces through much of the decade too. Hard not to forget how massive U2 were everywhere.

Artic Monkeys good shout for this decade ahead of OD anyway.

If you talking about the UK and album sales then during the 80s it was Queen AND Dire Straits. The latter band had huge album sales in this decade but are one of the bands that have fared less well as time has gone on. People forget how big they were. Brothers in Arms was massive.

no arguments about dire straits in the 80's, queen maybe 70's?

Robo - I'd say Queen were bigger in the 80s at least in album AND singles sales - with albums like Greatest Hits, The Works and A Kind Of Magic. As they started selling more in Europe and the rest of the world their success in America started going downhill rapidly after 1981.

Queen's success in the UK at least spreads throughout the 70s, 80s and into the 90s due to Freddie's death. They are the 2nd biggest selling band of all time in the UK after The Beatles (of course).

Dire Straits really were an albums act - massive in the 80s and then I think after 1991 (?) they virtually disbanded.

Girls Aloud????? They were successful but I would never call them a power group - does America know who Girls Aloud are? Surely a power group is a group that were globally successful.

Destiny's Child maybe? Black Eyed Peas? Kings of Leon? Coldplay? Taking a guess with these but would defo not define the 00s to Girls Aloud
