Saw someone mention in another thread about a cross over in a US soap, which made me wonder why its not done, especially on Emmerdale and Corrie which are both ITV Soaps, Im not talking anything major but little bits.

I remember when Emmerdale had the plane land on the village, a guy in Brookside had breakfast reading a paper and the headline was "Hundreds feared Dead as plane crashes in Yorkshire" or something along them lines.

It would be great to have a few more things like that. Saying that i think Reg Holdsworth appeared in Emmerdale i may be right.

In Australia Neighbours do it occasionally and im not 100% sure how well recieved it would be over here for example people have in the show (Neighbours) talk about Kylie Minogue and Guy Peirce. That is weird because its kind of saying the past in the show never happened.

What do people think?

Reg Holdsworth did a crossover in an Emmerdale video when the Dingles went to Venice. Imagine if they met Mike Baldwin with his wife Linda who had played Tina Dingle!
Or Tom King met Deirdre Barlow- after all she was meant to marry him when he was Billy Walker.
I don’t think Brookside featured the plane crash as Susannah Farnham once mentioned Eastenders and Emmerdale in one episodes and EE mentioned Coronation Street in a tv quiz that Arthur was a contestant on.
I don’t think a crossover between EE and C Street would work.

I think a real crossover between Corrie and Emmerdale could work very well

I always said Linda Sykes should have been Tina Dingle. I mean Jacqui Pirie playing her Emmerdale character on Corrie. Because they were exactly the same in character anyway. Imagine if Sam Dingle had been the one killed in the supermarket seige (remember that?), and the Dingles landed in Weatherfield to wreck revenge. Zak and Les in a punch up in the Rovers? Tina going back to Emmerdale with Mike Baldwin for her brothers funeral? So many possibilities!

I agree that it would have been better if Tina had reappeared in Corrie, but I suppose nobody ever thought of that.

I don't think we are ever likely to see a crossover between the UK soaps, although was there one between Hollyoaks and Brookside? I don't/didn't watch them so I can't say.

They might put up the ratings, though it would be difficult as characters may have appeared in other soaps before. This doesn't exactly matter on US soaps, because crossover actors wouldn't be seen in the same scenes as their former collegues, but in the UK soaps it would be more difficult as so much action is set around a particular place - the pub.

I think it would be great if there was a swap in the UK soaps. Chloe from Emmerdale goes and visits her cousins in Coronation Street, Weatherfield - Maria and Kirk Sutherland. She stays for a while, and causes trouble before leaving.

Then a few months later Vera and Jack Duckworth win a romantic break in the Grange B&B, Main Street, Emmerdale. They get involved in some comedy storylines.
