I have a iPad 2 and it just has the wifi on it but have been looking on 3 website and came across there Mifi.

As far as I can see it will work with iPad but I just wanted to double check that it will work if I wanted to use iPad out and about?

Provided your ipad is a 3g version (sim card slot on the top right edge) then yes you can use a three mini sim card. There is a coverage map on the three website to show if you area has a service. I use three in my ipad3 and get speeds faster than my home broadband.

No that's not what I'm on about.

My iPad is not a 3G one but there are a few networks now that sell these devices called Mifi which as far as I can see can work with a non 3G iPad but I just wanted to be sure that they do before getting one.

They do. I know a few people who use a 3 Mifi with Wifi iPads.

Works fine. I had my iPod touch, my laptop and my sister's iPad 2 connected to it. I used it in my static caravan for Internet as we had no land line or broadband.

The MiFi is effectively a bridge between the mobile data network and WiFi. As WiFi is an agreed standard it should in theory allow any WiFi capable device to connect to it. So the only variable ought to be the mobile data bit.

Fairly obviously it will only work if it gets signal on the 3 network. Which means you need to check on the 3 website whether the area you plan to use it in is covered.

The only other issue I can see is if you are truly mobile is how long the MiFi battery will last. Not an issue if you are near a mains socket as it has it's own little charger dock.

The battery does go done quite quickly. I got around 4 to 5 hours on the Huawei mifi router. Obviously not a problem for me as I had it plugged into the mains in my caravan most of the time.

I looked at all options comparing cost of hardware and monthly service cost and decided to go for the Wireless Pointer from T-Mobile

http://www.t-mobile.co.uk/shop/mobil...eless-pointer/

When I subscribed it was £10 per month (24 month contract), it is now £15 per month but the hardware is free!

I use it with my iPad 2, iPhone, laptop and my Blackberry for WiFi connection up to 5 devices at a time and on-board data storage using a microSD card....fantastic value IMO

Yeah it will work fine, you are better to buy PAYG Three SIMs from eBay as they cost about £12 for 3 months usage (£4 / month).

You can also get a Tmobile MiFi for £50 on their website and buy the SIMs on eBay that cost £20 and last 1 year (probably the cheapest you can get MiFi). - http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/T-Mobile-S...#ht_7679wt_922
