we recently cancelled sky. One thing I will miss the most is sky+. So I saw this Freesat boxes in comet. Don't know much info on it. Anyway can someone tell me if you have free HD channels on it and is it free? Also if there is HD do you have Channel 5 HD?

One last thing is there any cheap good quality boxes? Recording ones

Thanks

Have a look around the official Freesat site first of all which will answewr all your questions and more, also probably the best source of enthusiast information at Join Freesat which also gives a comprehensive at-a-glance list of all current Freesat boxes and TVs with best prices and suppliers.

In short, to answer your questions: Yes, there is free HD. Yes, Freesat is free (no subscription once you've paid for the equipment), no - Ch5HD is not available as yet, yes there are recording boxes (the ones with a + in their name) along with SD and HD receivers and integrated TVs. Also, as with most products, "cheap" and "good quality" are subjective and usually mutually exclusive.

Another point to remember is all TVs counts as Freesat HD boxes because they have the same specs as the Freesat HD boxes and have the same EPG as the Freesat HD boxes

If you are going for a Freesat+ box these too also counts as Freesat HD boxes because Freesat do not make SD Freesat boxes,
they never have unlike Freeview where you can buy SD Freeview+ boxes and HD Freeview+ boxes

Freesat HD kit has some more channels than the SD Freesat boxes like NHK World and ITV London on Channel Number 977

Removing those with poor build quality or significant outstanding problems you are left with Humax and Echostar.

However new G2 PVR's are overdue to market (Manhatten and also Humax).

Echostar have only one offering - Humax several depending on disk size. Humax direct (http://www.humaxdirect.co.uk/) do have freesat PVRs from 159 (320 MB) of your pounds sterling.
