O2 signal booster question

*peeks in*

Hi, I don't usually come in here but I have a tecchie question and I'm hoping someone here can answer it!

We live just on the edge of a good reception area for O2.

Our broadband reception is terrible - the signal is very weak and very unreliable.

We currently use an O2 dongle for the laptop and my mobile is also on O2.
Most of the time this works OK, but the signal is never great and sometimes it's terrible.

I have heard that there are signal boosters you can buy to improve reception and I have seen a website which sells them, but I have no idea if they're appropriate to our situation, how they work, or anything else about them.

Can anyone advise me?
I know they're legally dubious but I'm intending to ask O2 for permission befire we install one - I just want to be speaking from an informed position!

Thanks in advance for your help and patience

If you are in a 3G area you could use a Cel-Fi repeater. These are the only LEGAL signal boosters available for the O2 network but they only work with a 3G signal.

These are around the £490 mark though which is quite a lot.
Avoid the cheaper eBay style repeaters as these are illegal to use in the Uk (but not illegal to sell, buy or own), and can result in large fines and imprisonment if you're caught using one!!

O2 have a signal booster that connects to your home broadband if you have that. You would have to call customer services to see if they will give you one or sell you one.

Are there no other mobile firms in your area with a better signal?

Just bumping this to see if anyone else has any input - the Cel-Fi repeater sounds the most likely at the moment but that's a bit of a terrifying price, isn't it???

So the possibility of getting one for Free from O2 isn't for you

The Boostbox solution is still in trial with O2 and is not yet commercially available..
