Five Live on BBC Radio Newcastle:
Hi! All
This is interesting as I have just been looking at the schedules for BBC Radio Newcastle and starting overnight 3/4th September it has BBC Radio Five Live as being on overnight, I am not sure whether that is right but it does list The Nightshift up until that date. So I presume yet another change in the DQF by the BBC as they are already holding a trial at four other BBC local stations by turning off the MW signal, I wonder when they will do the same with BBC Newcastle. |

BBC London incidentally is keeping it's overnight show in September according to the website. |

Yes for about a week now, this thing keeps coming on, on the non-stop music and Alfie Joey says "our overnight music service is coming to an end on 10 September but don't worry you can still listen to Alfie & Charlie when you wake up".

"The Nightshifts" non stop music in the early hours on BBC Newcastle is certainly going to be a big miss when it changes to non stop talking from BBC Radio 5 Live!

In all fairness is an automated music service really fulfilling the core remit of BBC Local Radio? I'd much rather have a live service - with news content - albeit a relay of 5 Live.

I think the BBC in the North-East/Cumbria all take 5 live accept BBC Newcastle which has the music service. I wonder what the figures are for listening between 1am and 6.30am, but I don't think they could ever be high enough in the northeast to warrant a live show through the night.

BBC Radio WM never had an overnight service to my knowledge,Radio 2 in the early years used to be on overnight, then Five Live as is still the case today.

Interesting this morning as breakfast started at 6am. Usually don't hear Alfie Joey for another half an hour.

Radio 2 was the sustaining service for most BBC Locls for mny years. Then for a time it was the 648 version of the World Service, before Five Live.
