Moving house - my BT line

I have BT for my phone and broadband service (Infinity 2)

I am moving to the Swansea area at the end of the month, no inifity service there, but will be able to get around 17meg on ADSL (exchange just around the corner)

I need my line asap, the earliest BT can offer me is 27th September

Would I be within my rights to ditch BT and go to Virgin for my calls & broadband service?

I do have a contract with BT and would really like to stick with them, but I do need my internet connection for work

Any ideas?

Bit of a grey area , if BT were unable to provide service at your new address at all, then you should not be held to term on the telephony part of the contract, but they are not saying they cannot provide service,it's just the lead time is not good enough for you,
Does this new place in Swansea have a line already ?, as you may find that although they say 27th September, if the work is just within the exchange, a takeover of an existing line, then regardless of the contractual date they quote, the actual work may take place in the exchange well before that date...lead times for external engineers are huge at the moment due to the bad (wet) weather ,Openreach concentrate on repair, the people who visit exchanges deal with provision and repair more equally, and if a line exists and is being taken over by you, it may be working long before the 27th

How about a dongle on a months contract to tide you over, depends I suppose what you need the internet for (or how much of it) and coverage in your area from the one you might choose ... also of course GB p/m.

Is the lead time really that long? Is your order a residential order or a bussiness order, they have different priorities, has the property got service at this moment? has next door got a service you could patch across?
If you have 17meg estimate you must be real close to the exch. I get 19 meg and the exchange is 2 doors away.
