Cher Lloyd Sells 1,000,000 Copies Of Her DEBUT Single In The US!
Quote:
X Factor star Cher Lloyd is on her way to being a hit in the US. http://entertainment.stv.tv/music/18...gle-in-the-us/The 18-year-old has sold one million copies of Want U Back, her debut solo single in the States. Amazing achievement by her! Who could believe a little girl from Malvern has done so well for herself? I'm so proud, the UK has shown nothing but dislike (mostly from the old miserable people) of her. But the US really seem to like her, my best advice for Cher would to be to just promote herself there. They at least respect her for her music and US music market is far larger then the UKs. Happy for ya Cher, excited for the 2nd album! ![]() Who said she was gonna be a flop....? hehe

Nothing against her but she's had one hit, so what?
That's no an achivement. It's longevity that really excites me for British Talent. |

Yeah good on her but her attitude sucks but i guess thats what sells records. I just don't like the fact she's been on record dissing other long-standing artists when she's just starting off.

She's done well for herself, you must admit. It's not even as if she's just had a little success, 1,000,000 sales in the US is amazing! I'm not keen on her music but I'm happy for her.

I'm very happy for her as I'm a big fan. I think what american teen girls find appealing about hee is that she is like a rebellious disney princess, hopefully she can continue her success

I like the song but I don't like Cher.
Didn't the Wanted sell quite well with Glad You Came but the album didn't perform as well as the single? Its a good achievement but I think its too soon to say that's she's going to be successful in the longer run over there. |

I wonder what they'll release next over there. Hopefully not Swagger Jagger as I don't think that will do well. Maybe 'You're Love' or whatever it was called is the best choice.

However, though it seems she really really likes it over there, you can't help feeling it doesn't "sit well". I kind of feel as if she's almost being hounded out almost by those who've probably forgotten why they disliked her in the first place but "still know they do" .....and one hit single does not make a US career. Work remains to be done to cement it all, and it's tough over there. Still all her detractors here, who get all worked up about her "being shoved down their throats" can't moan if she's 3000 miles away, having a good time, entertaining those who want to be entertained by her and raking in the cash in the process. Good news for everyone in that sense.
Nevertheless it's hard to see how America could've been better for her realistically, from the perspective of a debut single. OK top10 on Billboard would've been nice and VEVO/streaming views have taken a while to get going (but are now at around 500K a day on her total account) and all that, but if you'd told her and Messrs Cowell and LA Reid she'd do a six week unbroken stretch (and still going) in the top 10 of USItunes, still be shifting over 100K a week into the end of August, go platinum, and by all accounts had a positive response which is almost the polar opposite of what she gets here, they'd've bitten your hand off. Her prospects are transformed from early May. According to Cherlloyd Skyrock a very reliable French website, I think she's now shifted around 1.7M singles worldwide, with one assumes second US/Canadian single to come, (revised) album release in the US in October, supporting Hot Chelle Rae in Aus/NZ (where she also has sold very well) in Oct/Nov and one assumes a N America tour after that sometime. Being dropped before album two which was not impossible before all this, is now about as likely as Barcelona getting relegated this year. After that who knows but despite Chelmsford it's actually been a good week for Ms Lloyd in the long term. |

Not surprised by this, it's a good song and she's had good promotion.
I think releasing Swagger Jagger first here was a bad move. It got her fans going, and was all "yeah look at Cher, she doesn't care about haters" but it seems like all it did was alienated anyone who didn't like her from X Factor into probably not being willing to buy anything that came afterwards because of her stinking attitude at the launch of her career. I think she's done well here, but I don't think she's got any room for growth, fanbase wise, I think had she released Want U Back here first, and sort of brushed the haters to one side, she would have stood a better long term chance here. Perhaps America will be where she makes it and once she's matured she can come back here with a better attitude and perhaps do well here too. |

For a 19 year old girl to sell over 1 000 000 copies of her first ever single in the USA, without THAT much promotion, is actually fantastic!
She is pretty much hated in the UK - unfairly. So i am happy for her! |

God, I hate this country sometimes. It's ruled by teenagers. (I say this as a 19 year old.) And don't be fooled to think she hasn't had that much promotion. That stupid song is ALWAYS on the radio. I think it is getting more play than Domino did. Plus, Perez Hilton has been talking about her nonstop for quite a while. Apparently they are BFFs now. That song makes me want to puke. She has an okay voice, but the lyrics are just dumb. It's worse than Bieber's dumb lyrics from his last album. (His music from this album is actually a lot better, might I add. i think his balls finally dropping was good on him.)

Ellie Goulding, Calvin Harris, One Direction's 6 month-old hit, and 19 other songs are currently being played more than Want U Back on US radio. Also, I'm not sure if the charts are really ruled by teenagers, since I look at the US iTunes chart, and I see Maroon 5, fun., Phillip Phillips, Neon Trees, Train, Alex Clare, Little Big Town, Jason Mraz, Carrie Underwood, Hunter Hayes, etc. in the chart. Teenagers like artists more like Lil Wayne, Drake, Jay-Z, Kanye West, etc, who are nowhere to be seen in the charts anymore. |

Why are people who dont like her "miserable and old" im neither but she has a terrible terrible bratty spoilt obnoxious attitude and swagger jagger IS one of the worst songs ever, the criticism she gets is justified.
Selling that many copies of her first single there is good no one can deny that but she is hardly setting the world alight. |

Perhaps L.A. Reid has proved you can polish a turd after all
.Eventually he may find it takes too much time, effort & finance to keep on doing that though - think he's got enough experience within the industry to realise that at some point.
