I am fairly new to the ipad and still finding my feet. I have been reading about the sky+ app that let's you use ipad as a remote. I tried to install it but it says I have to a broadband connection which I have otherwise I wouldn't be able to use the ipad! Does it have to be sky broadband? Thanks

Are you downloading the app over your Wifi? Where did you get to in the install process? Did the app install?

I think it might be telling you that you need to have your Sky box connected to your broadband, presumably you don't.

Yes I think the sky box and ipad have to both be on the same wifi connection.

To be honest though, it's a bit of a gimmick. It's quicker and easier to pick up the controller and use that.

I don't think it's a gimmick at all.

It means you can use the iPad to check and manage the Planner while the TV is being used for something else, e.g. if my wife is watching something and doesn't want the guide brought up as it gets in the way, or if I'm watching a film or playing a game and my wife wants to manage the Planner, etc.

Also means you can use it to control the box if you are watching in another room via the RF out (not everyone can have multiroom, thanks to short-sighted developers ).

Plus the Guide tells you when a programme is broadcast again.

The guide/planner thing is great. I use that a lot. But I'm not convinced by the controller for pause, rewind etc.

Its a pretty good attempt for a new app, controls could be a bit more polished, Nice you that you can have access to all your recordings. Its a great addition for my as have sky going to other locations in the house via cable. As the old magic eyes are hit and miss sometimes.

Unfortunately you cannot watch your recordings on the iPad. Now that would be fantastic.

there are some pre-requisites that need to be in place before the ipad app will work

1) your sky HD box needs to be connected to your broadband connection
2) your sky HD box needs to have the latest new EPG software (only Amstrad DRX890 and DRX895 boxes currently can get this).
3) your ipad needs to be connected to the same network as your sky HD box.

if you can send a remote record message from the sky website to your box then you should be able to using the sky+ app too.

Before I had an HD box and just a normal Sky+ box the remote record facility worked fine on the Sky+ apps on iPhone and iPad. But that was some months ago now so unless it's changed...
