That's not true. It's good for storing music as it has excellent speakers also.

What it isn't good for is streaming music via an App (as they're limited).

So other than the lack of apps. Its hard to fault it especially for £129?

Yes, and if you look up how to sideload Android apps there is even less to fault.

I suggest a new brother that knows that they are talking about!

How about this....

Go to Morrisons first and buy a Currys gift card and get 1p a litre of fuel for each £10.

So a £120 gift card would be 12p a litre off fuel.

That could be £7.2 for 60 litres.

Use the gift card to buy the Playbook.

It's rubbish op save your cash!

Why else would blackberry be selling them so cheap.
No it isn't. I got the 16gig one about a year ago and it's excellent - fast, classy and well built.

The Playbook is a cracking piece of kit, much better than the cheap crap people keep suggesting.

I have a blackberry mobile. I've heard of something called "Tethering" or something. Basically connecting the Playbook and using the mobile as a modem/dongle thingy.
I think it's for when you are in an area that doesn't have WiFi so you can use 3g. How easy is it to link the two up or isn't it necessary?

I think the idea is rather than use a PAYG dongle and spend more money just use what you are paying for on your monthly mobile bill

You can link it to your Blackberry or use any other phone that can act as a wifi hotspot.

The Playbook is a normal tablet, I don't own. blackberry phone and it works just fine, it has email etc that is stand alone

I agree. Had one since Christmas and it's a good tablet. Pretty reliable, decent battery life and a solid design.

Still no bookmark editing. Grrrr.

But aside from that I can't fault it. Although I can't get it to run Bad Piggies .... but then I've got my Vega for that

Bought a Playbook for my daughter recently and we are both well impressed. Great tablet for the money.....in fact, it's worth quite a bit more than the asking price, I'd say. Still not sure why they reduced it quite so much

They sold badly at the original price point - and the original version 1 OS had a few issues that were mainly sorted in version 2...but by then people had moved on and I don't think Blackberry have had the same sucess in marketing the device as Apple of Google have had. And then the lack of sucess has meant there are less apps so that can put people off as well.

It was marketed wrong, more as an iPad challenger, which was never going to work.

Fact is a 64 gig Playbook for £129 is superb value, by the way the 2.1 update still allows sideloading of Android apps.

For those thinking of a Playbook for presentations, it has a nifty little feature. When you output it to a projector or TV, there is an option to lock the output screen onto say your powerpoint presentation whilst on your tablet you can switch to another app (say to get a video ready) then when ready instantly switch the output screen to the video, then you can let that play whilst you are doing something else on the tablet.

It's a really neat feature.

If your thinking of buying one and have a bit of technical knowledge. You can download the Playbook Emulator which runs win VMWare Player (doesn't work in VirtualBox).

There is only a Browser as far as Apps are concerned but the core OS is there:

I don't quite get the emphasis on apps ...it seems to me that you can get a lot of what you want via a browser

Also can anyone explain "side loading" to me ? I'd be v grateful

A lot of people like to use specific apps for things like Facebook or Skype and sometimes an app can be better than using the web page on a small screen or in Skype’s case it is not available on the Playbook at all.

Sideloading is when you take an Android app/game that has been converted from an APK file which is one that Android uses and converted it to a BAR file which the Playbook can read. You then put the BAR file on your Playbook and this allows you to sue some Android apps/games.

Just to add to the above you need to find the converted files so if you Google something like converted apps for playbook or playbook .bar files you will find plenty of sites where legit (free Android apps) have been converted.

You also need to install a bit of software on your PC that you run (you need to enable development mode in the playbook which is in the settings and rather like Android tablets allows apps to be installed from a PC rather than the app store) to actually install the app. I use DDPB, see link below.

http://crackberry.com/ddpb-installer...k-updated-v109

It's dead easy to use, so don't be put off.
