I'm prepared for the torrent of potential abuse coming my way (though having checked the rules I'm pretty confident I'm acting within them).

Would anyone be willing to help answer a few short questions on comic buying?

10 questions...I will not disclose any information you give, it will not be used for marketing & there is no way you can be traced (that I'm aware of).

PM me if you would like to take part.

Sorry to keep posting but I just wanted to say I am completely humbled by the response to this survey. I honestly thought nobody would help as people don't have time or don't want more surveys in their life.

I'm not trying to sell you anything in it but it will help me decide whether an idea I have for a business is worthwhile.

Once again thank you!

Looks to me like someone is considering an online comic shop. If you can beat http://www.disposableheroes.co.uk/ and http://stores.ebay.co.uk/A-PLACE-IN-SPACE prices then you could do well. I know of a few people who were considering it but couldn't beat them.

Then there's also whatever weird rules (read: flaming hoops they want you to jump through) Diamond is currently enforcing, if any. Why they sometimes make it hard for folk, I dunno. It goes beyond protecting themselves...

Ah well, good luck!

I'm familiar with both and I think it is possible...in fact I know it is.

I have a few other ideas as well...but initially it would be online.

The comic business is going digital, if it's going anywhere. If you can make on-line work it will only be for the dying years of the printed comic business.

Right now publishers don't need shops to get their product to readers. Soon writers and artists won't need publishers.

Anyway. Remember to factor in marketing, dead stock, returns and a million and one other hassles to online selling, including fairly onerous distance selling regulations.

I disagree about digital...both personally and in the results of the survey.

Thanks for the advice.

You're disagreeing with your potential customer base, even though it's been in the comics news recently about how digital has gained in leaps and bounds in popularity and even the big two are seriously reconsidering their strategies? Digital gives any publisher much better profits than print editions whilst still being cheaper to the consumer, it's the nature of the beast.

I must admit, I'm a big fan of the dead-tree versions but, after sorting out 6 long and 3 short boxes over the past few weeks, and still undecided as to where they're going to be stored, I'm considering shifting across to digital more seriously

Agreed. I notice quite a few new comics are digital only now too.

Admittedly I've downloaded quite a few .CBR comics but when I did want to buy a comic I only wanted the digital one. I will be using my Comixology account once I buy a new tablet.

I might disagree but that would not stop me providing that option to the 25% that buy digital.
