Dropped my iPad

I dropped it on the kitchen floor and now it has several cracks along the screen.

It's working fine ATM but I don't know what to do, should I take it to an Apple Store? Will they replace the screen? How much will it cost? Just wondering if this happened to anyone else on here.

As far as I know, Apple will only replace hardware/software issues, not accidental damage

Gonna be a repair job

Do you have House Insurance? If you have accidental damage cover with it, you could claim for that.

Hmm could give it a go, but it'll probably take a while..how much is a repair job likely to cost? The OH is gonna murder me when he finds out

Is it under warranty? If it is, take it to the Apple store. Read a forum, where they say they will replace It for free.

Apple have been known to offer free replacement in certain circumstances as a gesture of goodwill, but I would imagine it's only been offered in exceptional circumstances.

Out of warranty replacement will cost £206.44 for an original iPad or iPad 2, and £256.44 for the new iPad, and you get a new or as-new refurbished unit.

Only had it around 4 months or so, so I presume it's still under warranty. Need to dig out all the stuff!

Accidental damage is not covered under warranty. You will need to pay for an out of warranty replacement.

I would take it to apple, if their feeling kind and you turn on the puppy eyes, they 'might' take pity and replace it for you..

Good luck!

I have seen plenty continue to be used with a cracked screen.

You will probably find someone cheap to repair an iPad 2 screen but the new one is all glued down to funnel everyone to the Apple recycling program business.

If you know how to do it then it is quite possible to make a repair yourself or a technician - no need to 'funnel it off'

If you want to try yourself visit iFixit for advice and safety warnings.

The 2/10 score it gives means extreme caution is needed.
