If you have the time and the patience it could be useful to read it.
After genuinely considering leaving and requesting my PAC, I accepted a deal to upgrade with Orange.
£26 per month on a 24 month contract.
Galaxy S3 £29
800 minutes
Unlimited texts
1.5Gb internet with 750Mb tethering
3Gb BT Openzone
2 Free swappables.
Plus a 2Gb dongle for £2.50 per month (a £7.50 discount on the normal £10 per month cost) on an 18-month contract.
= £28.50 per month plus £6 insurance.
However if I decide to return the dongle after 18 months, the full discount will be applied to my remaining account - i.e the bill will be reduced by £7.50 to £21 for the last 6 months.
I'm still in the notice period and I'm considering cancelling the contract and perhaps going elsewhere for three reasons.
- General indoor reception problems with Orange in the Exe valley (and some other places) where I spend a lot of time. This is one of the reasons I asked for my PAC code.
- The extra reception issues and poor call quality with my Orange S3.
- that notwithstanding the aforementioned issues the S3 is astoundingly useful. As I travel a lot and spend large amounts of time outside, the internet alone is a boon.
Having seen the unlimited internet deals around, I'm wondering if in practice I might not be better off paying £8 or so more for unlimited internet and unlimited tethering with 3. I can see myself using the GPS a lot and with unlimited internet I could see myself being on the handset a heck of a lot.
Here are the questions I have.
How much does the internet allowances Orange are offering work out at in practice? Do many people with this sort of allowance tend to go over this limit? In other words is unlimited internet generally overkill or would I find the extra £6-

Here are the questions I have. I apologise if thy fall under the category of "the bleeding obvious". I am a complete noob as far as modern mobile phones are concerned - as I mentioned in the other thread, I've been using a Sony Ericsson P910 for eight years. It's been a pleasure to own TBH.
How much does the internet allowances Orange are offering work out at in practice? Do people who use the internet regularly with this sort of allowance find it easy to stick to the limit, or do they find they tend exceed it and end up being fleeced? In other words is unlimited internet on a phone generally overkill or would I find the extra £6 or so worth it?
Is there any particular advantage in BT openzone on Orange that would counterbalance the benefit of unlimited internet with tethering on 3? At first glance it seems that there is no real advantage in having limited wi-fi if you can use your phone as a hot spot with unlimited data.
I have specific questions about 3, which would probably be better on a separate thread.
