I would like Virgin to try to get some cool exclusive stuff as Sky has Sky Atlantic as an exclusive and Virgin don't have any killer channels of their own that Sky don't have.
I'm not saying they have to own channels outright again but having a few channels which aren't carried on the Sky platform with quality programming would be bound to draw viewers back in to the red corner. |

I have no doubt he is genuine, and probably a thoroughly nice bloke - but anyone is only as good as the info given, and we do not know how well placed his sources are ......

[31/10/12] I have also stop using that insider who told me that 6 new channels was set to launch in October and Only Channel 5 +1 appeared.
And it appears that, quite understandably, VM have clamped down on leaks from their employees. Quote:
From October 27th 2012 I will no longer be using any Insiders from Virgin Media to get my news for channels launches say in January 2013. I also think that Media Boy's writing style and English does not match that of a journalist. I'm sure he's an enthusiast just like us but who has tried to be helpful in sharing information he had read in various places. As a result, he was sent tip-offs not in the public domain which could not be authenticated. Latterly the tip-offs proved false and now his VM insiders access has ceased.
As some insiders has PM me over the last week they cant give out any info to me anymore. |

Whereas Sky's strategy is to promote exclusive channels such as Sky Atlantic and Sky Sports 3 HD. They run Sky Atlantic at a huge loss and frankly, if I were a shareholder, I'd be questioning that arrangement. Sky's poor treatment of its Sky subscribers via Virgin Media will only reinforce the poor attitudes that exist against this company, and what they haven't worked out financially is how much the poor public image of Mr Murdoch and the commercial decisions made by his companies has resulted in fewer customers than they would otherwise have. Whilst this might be difficult to quantify, the sheer number of posts from people who say they would never go over to Sky satellite and the number of anti-Murdoch comments that I pick up on a day to day basis makes me think that with a more customer friendly approach, they might win a lot more people over. Isn't going to happen, though

I think VM's strategy is to provide more content via streaming from Lovefilm, Netflix and the like. Wish they'd hurry up, though.

If I buy a BMW I am a BMW customer, if I hire a BMW I am a customer of the car hire company. If BMW offer the hire company this years models and the hire company say NO, they cost too much and our customers will not pay, BMW are not at fault.

They are if the cost is inflated so much that it only makes sense for customers to buy directly from BMW.
Don't use the spiel that Old Boy comes out with "we don't know the costs but going off Sky's reputation" That wont wash any more, especially as Virgin seem to be in perpetual negotiations with other providers also and the CAT report on sports pricing stated that Virgin deliberately scuppered negotiations hoping OFCOM would get them channels on the cheap. |

The BMW analogy is flawed from outset as both the dealer and the end user could hire or buy directly comparable products from Mercedes or Audi.

Go on then I'll ask you, because when Old Boy is asked he never gives the the information, what are the costs involved ?

I don't believe I have ever made the comment that you have attributed to me. However, it is no secret that Sky are pretty ruthless and display reckless anti-competitive behaviour in the commercial world.

In fact your example is doubly confusing, because you don't have to buy a BMW directly from BMW. Whereas if I want Sky Atlantic, I can only get it one way - through Sky's satellite system. I think I'll rest my case there. |

What kind of example is that? It is completely the wrong analogy because apart from anything else, if I get a BMW from a hire company, BMW do not benefit, whereas if I get Sky channels through Virgin Media, Sky pocket most of the subscription and receive the benefit of better rates for their advertisements due to the bigger numbers watching the channel.

BBC Alba have a lot of sport too with some decent football, rugby and other stuff, including shinty. The rugby games will be of special interest to some viewers from Wales and Ireland as their teams feature in the same league, the Rabobank Pro 12 and Glasgow and Edinburgh games are featured.
It has some other interesting little shows occasionally although I don't speak Gaelic but thankfully they are all subtitled in English, with the only exceptions being children's shows. |

AND BBC Alba were the first channel to show Dolly Parton at the O2 - not in Gaelic!

So in terms of actual new HD channels then, we've had our lot for 2012 - bar Sky News HD - according to a VM rep who replied to a customer, who in turn provided the link somewhere here in the cable forums recently.
Must admit to being disappointed by this - particularly with the remainder of the ITV HD channels - especially ITV2. The only other channel I would really love in HD aside from the ITV ones is Universal, but I suspect that that may be a long time - if ever - in coming our way. Silver lining outlook - I've got 5 HD for this years Big Brother when it starts - so a big bonus..though more live feed would be great too..!! It's a shame about MediaBoy. I lurk a lot, and certainly his sources were once very good, but as others have commented, it seems his access to what's coming has dried up, or being plugged intentionally after discovering who he was perhaps. |

Woop woop........Sky News HD........I don't get that at the minute but by golly, I can hardly contain myself waiting for it's arrival....well worth my 98 quid a month!! Will anybody actually sit for a couple of hours at a time and watch it, just because it's HD? As has been said, Universal/5USAHD (love those American cop shows etc) is on 'my wishlist' and would get a darn sight more viewing than HD News

Sky News HD isn't confirmed for being added to our lineup, the rep seemed to have got it wrong.
Hindi channel Star Life OK is due to be added soon, presumably for those subscribing to Asian Mela. |

![]() Regarding HD Channels, I don't know what all the fuss is about. I checked the astra website and apart from a couple of film channels and the odd documentary channel, I wouldn't lose any sleep over it,,, |

Been told today on the phone to Virgin that no new HD channels for sometime due to that many customers still have V+ boxes that would not be able to hold to much HD shows at time.
Did he tell me lies ??? |
