UMP Movies has subtitles in English.
I know but if I wanted to read I'd get a book.

Subtitled shows can be pretty good at times.

In the past few years I've watched the likes of Seacht (an Irish show in Irish Gaelic) and Borgen (a Danish show) and also the Swedish version of Wallander.

Quite possibly although I would prefer to watch something in a language I understand rather than having to read the translation.

TV5Monde has some pretty good drama's and documentaries with English subtitles, but you have to turn them on manually as opposed to them being in-vision on the screen like Borgen on BBC4 for example.

It's good to see Virgin adding more channels but what would disappoint me is that most of the recent launches (C5+1, Africa Channel, CBS Drama, Al Jazeera, UMP Movies and Rishtey) are free to air channels.

And those that are basic Pay channels on satellite (Star Gold and presumably Good Times when it launches) have been placed in a premium package.

Hopefully they will add some more Pay channels next year at no extra cost.

Seeing as how we're always told here by Sky users that their platform is "better" because it has more channels then I think VM are doing a good job bridging that gap. And there aren't many more pay channels available that VM could add to increase the amount of content already available with their pay TV packages.

I've looked over the Sky channel lists and I'd like the following channels to be added, although this is more my opinion on what should be included rather than my own personal tastes (I'll intentionally leave out the +1s and HD variants as they're just alternative versions of existing channels, although the likes of Sky Sports 3 and 4 HD would be nice to have)

I'll put an asterisk *, next to all the channels I'd personally want to have on VM in particular.

BET
Travel Channel
Style Network
Food Network *
TCM 2 *
Sony Movie Channel *
Movies 4 Men *
Men And Movies *
MTV Music *
MTV Classic *
Chart Show TV
The Vault
Flava

AKA
Starz TV
Bliss
Scuzz *
Dance Nation
Buz Muzik
Clubland TV
Massive R&B
Heart TV
Capital TV
Premier Sports *
Premier Sports Extra *
NHK World
CCTV News
Russia Today (RT)
France 24
CNC
eNCA
Discovery Investigation *
Pop

There's a heavy emphasis on music channels in your list, weetomuncher, but would you actually watch some of these channels? Is it just more channels for more channels sake? TCM2 is just a variant of TCM which contains exactly the same programmes!

Don't forget we have loads of music on demand.

So where will the money come from to pay for them?

Having said that, I suspect that the price rises already announced are designed to pay for some extra channels.

Indeed, one would hope so.

These "so called new" channels are not even worth commenting on tbh.Where are the ITV HD channels,ITV 2,ITV 3,ITV 4 HD channels? There is a bit of football on ITV4,which would interest the sports fans.and ITV 2 have some decent stuff now and again,Celebrity Juice for example.

MTV Music is probably worthy of carriage, as they tend to put some of the best content on there like the Hurricane Sandy relief concert last week, in full and before Sky Arts. The other more low budget music channels are just a waste of time.

Virgin doesn't have a lot of music channels compared to Sky but I agree that some of the channels I mentioned aren't great. Some of them would have an audience but I'll admit that Scuzz, MTV Music and MTV Classic are the three that I want and I wouldn't be too worried if the others didn't make it on to VM.

I have Freesat and Freeview as well as VM and I can watch the non MTV channels on Freesat but it would be nicer to have the decent VM picture rather than the dodgy Freesat picture.

But we have music on demand instead, although I think you need the XL package for that.

Looks like you need to change providers then.

Why on earth would you want that if you don't want +1's? It's just a peak time time-shift of TCM

I was actually under the impression that it was a proper second TCM channel showing much of the same content but on different nights and in different order, acting as a second content channel but if it is more of a direct timeshift then that isn't so good.

It runs from 8pm (sometimes 10pm) to 4am or thereabouts showing mainly content from the main channel on a +1 timeshift. Sometimes the first and usually the last film are generally from earlier in the day for continuity purposes to allow the films to fit correctly into the timeslot.

As a part-time timeshift it wouldn't bring much value to VM.

I actually have Freesat and Freeview as well as Virgin Media (XL with Sports and Movies) but I'd like to get all the channels I like on VM to allow me to record shows and watch in good picture quality. Freesat can be a little wonky at times.

Staff on Cable Forum have confirmed that both versions of Al Jazeera and UMP Movies are launching tomorrow in the M+ pack:-

622 - Al Jazeera English
836 - Al Jazeera Arabic
830 - UMP Movies
Anyone knows if Al Jazeera Arabic comes on Sky in 2013??

Hmm, im sure Al Jazeera Arabic bosses knows Virginmedia is very small compared to Sky which got more viewrs,so if they added the channel to virginmedia i think its likely become available on Sky as well

Al Jazeera Arabic used to be on Sky years ago, but when AJ English launched, the Arabic version was removed from the platform for some reason.

I don't care if we never get any of those channels listed above if we get HD versions of the ones we already have.
