Just tweeted by Jake Humphrey >>>> I wish I could tell you all something that will make lots of you very, very happy...but sadly I can't for the next few hours #WatchThisSpace'

What was the news in the end?

Still no news on BT Sport, but a pre roll advert can now be seen before VOD Discovery programming that suggests that Universal HD may be on it's way...

Was Universal a Sky exclusive or another reason why it hasn't been on Virgin?

It was/is a Sky exclusive.

There is speculation that it may be coming to Virgin Media, mainly because the advert that I mentioned doesn't mention Sky, whilst advertising the availability of HD on the VM platform.

Apparently, VM provide all the pre-roll ads, apart from 4OD and the i player, so VM must be aware of what the advert contains.

Good news that BBC Red Button now has its own channel on 991 and the new Red Button HD channel is on 994 but what an odd decision to put them in the 900 section, which we all associate with being for radio stations.

The idea is you press the red button, not actually use the EPG, much like why they are very high up in the EPG on Freeview. They've put them in the EPG so TiVOs don't have to stream HD over the network connection, and V+/VHD users can see the HD Red Button content.

Good news if the Scripps Network Channels come!

Thanks for the info.

That to me suggest they plan to launch something on 286 , Style HD possibly ?

It would make sense to launch 3 NBC Universal owned HD channels all at the same time.

Not quite sure what you mean. Last night, as far as I could tell, the red button did not give the option of looking at the Springwatch cam but it was available on Virgin 991. Also, on Freeview the red button is on 301 not exactly "high up on the EPG" which starts at '1'.

If Style even had a HD version...

Interesting though, there's a lot of large gaps higher up the lifestyle section they could be filling.

Channel ranges aren't usually exclusive, the 200 range is shared by the factual / documentary and lifestyle genres, 700 between kids and shopping channels etc. Just think of the 990 range as interactive / info.

It seems to be more of a BBC policy change, the Red Button streams have also been given EPG slots on Freesat.

How can you not get that?

The BBC want you to press the red button to access them rather than using them like a channel.

301 on Freeview is quite high up considering there isn't anything after the HD channels anyway.

You can now record off the red button stream, but the idea is still that you press the red button, otherwise what is the point in calling them Red Button!

301 quite high up? Have a look at the official Freeview list of channels and click on Channels by Number

Streamed content and the CRB are probably the way forward for extra content but, at the moment, too many people don't have TiVo.

I think Virgin should try to get everyone switched over to Tivo, at least for their main receiver.

It has so many advantages over the basic receivers and having a single standard makes rolling out new services far easier.

At the moment, they have viewers with basic receivers, V+ receivers and Tivo. It must be awkward trying to keep everyone happy and everything working.

Tivo has a lot of promise that hasn't been entirely fufiled yet.

I would think it would be quite costly to swap out all legacy boxes, both in terms of new boxes and installation. Not to mention resistance from customers happy with their existing boxes and quite a few V+ box users with a large catalogue of unwatched recordings.

It would be pretty easy to encourage customers to switch over if you offered clear incentives and made it impractical to have an out of date receiver.

Cut non TiVo services down to practically nothing so that customers NEED a TiVo as their main receiver. It means more services are available that the customers can be charged for and the money comes back in.

It's always been there, but my point stands, the idea is you press the red button not go to the channel on the EPG.

ALSO MTV Classic is listing a Virgin EPG number on it's website of 321
http://www.mtv.co.uk/channels/mtv-classic

Isn't on the EPG yet so probably set to launch this week!
