If Sky Atlantic ever makes its way to Virgin then I'll be switching from Sky.

Virgin Media is a closed network so just because they are free to air on satellite does not make them free on Virgin.

True, but it doesn't equate to adding channels of value if you can get them FTA on another platform.

But it's helpful. Although I can get channels on Freeview that I cannot get on VM, it is a nuisance because I can't record them! I like to have all my programmes lined up in the recordings as I do not watch live TV as a rule, so turning over to Freeview and being confronted with all those commercials does my head in!

I've noticed Fox+ is on the TV Anywhere listings on channel 199 already
http://anywhere.virginmedia.com/tv-listings/

I remember them doing the same with ID +1 and Animal Planet HD before they launched.

You could always invest in a Freeview PVR.

Horror Channel+1, CBS Reality+1 and Fox+ are being scanned by my DVB-C TV.
In addition to these (I think some are on the EPG) free to air tests of CBS Action, Vintage TV, British Eurosport 2, TCM+1, Sony Entertainment and Jewellerymaker and Sky Sports News have appeared. All are using generic names and being broadcast in addition to those already on the EPG.

Edit: I've just realised they are all on the EPG pointing towards them being squeezed into 256 QAM frequencies freeing up bandwidth elsewhere.

I know, and I could also get a satellite dish, subscribe to Sky and get the best of both worlds. But why should I? I only want to pay for one subscription and one box. I should be able to get all the decent stuff from Virgin Media.

Happily, they are now making good the shortfall we've had previously, but they still have a little way to go.

This is no different to Sky who locked Yesterday and E4 into sub packages . No sub , no channels despite them being on Freeview.
Has this changed as I've not checked for a while?

Not yet but it's happening soon according to various rumours. Possibly this month.

-FOX+ (Confirmed as it appeared on the TV Anywhere listings on Wednesday).
-CNN USA.
-CNN USA HD.
-CNN International HD (Ask AsianChannel).
-Sky Atlantic.
-Sky Atlantic HD (from BomberAF on CableForum, he was correct about BT Sports arrival).
-5Later (Only confirmed as launching on Freeview so far).
-The Active Channel (Confirmed by Virgin on Facebook)

I watch Sky News all the time (When nothing else is on) and would like to be able to watch it in HD.

What's the point, you would say, of having four blokes and a host talking about football matches for six hours in HD? You want to compare Soccer Saturday in SD with HD. The show, like the news, is full of graphics, and looks brilliant in HD. Can't wait for Virgin to get it, likewise Sky News HD.
