But here's the thing, Geoff, they do care. And they want to deny it to those of us who want it.

I really don't understand the attitude that 'just because I don't need it, you shouldn't be allowed to have it.' It's just jealousy and selfishness in my opinion.

It's not as if by some of us having an HD channel we're denying them something they want. It's perverse!

So you are the source?

I am intrigued as to whether you have a source, or you are repeating what others with sources have said, or weather it is just a gut feeling?

I have no sources, so don't know whether it's coming or not. I do believe the climate has changed now and there is more of a possibility of it being added (at the same time or a little after it's added to Now TV) than there was previously. So I am optimistically hopeful. But I don't know.

I just wondered where your certainty came from?

Sorry, I'm not going down that route, you'll just have to wait until I'm proved right. Not long to go now.

If you look back, you will see I was consistent on telling you all that BT Sport was coming despite a lot of people who didn't believe it and I was right on that. I don't indulge in this silly speculation that we see so much of on the forums.

Sky Atlantic/HD and Netflix are two good things to look forward to this season, and more.

I don't get that answer. All you have to do is say whether you have a source or not. No one is asking you to give any hint as to who that source may be if you do have one.

Or you could say that you don't have a source, but trust the people who say they have a source.

Or you could say it is gut instinct.

All are perfectly valid reasons to post what you did. I don't understand why you can't tell us which one of the three it is?

It is indeed. I watch everything in HD if i can because, simply put - its MUCH better.

Could I live without it? Sure, I can live without anything except for food, water and air.

Does it improve the experience? Massively. Nothing is negatively affected by HD.

You're right though, it is weird how some people are actively against improving technology. I'd love them to explain the philosophy rather than discuss an individual technology - just what is it they have a problem with?!

Does tv news need to be in colour , stereo, or in widescreen or even anything except 405 lines ?
It's called progress.

The screen size is no more important than the viewing distance.
I started HD viewing with a 32" and the difference was like night and day .
You are clearly sitting too far from the screen .
When you get your 42" move a bit further away and you won't see the difference again .
Move a bit closer to your 32" and you'll see it .

The difference between HD and SD even on a 50" set will not be noticeable if you sit far enough away .

On your phone a Youtube video may look great .
Put it on your tv and it will look shit .

Size of screen goes hand in hand with viewing distance .

Because it wants to, perhaps?

Which, of course, they're not really. But you can think what you like

Yet we've managed perfectly well without it for last how-many years?

“, it's the evolution of television. To say that because of some report in Syria is not HD then the rest shouldn't be in HD is silly.”

That was someone else's comment.

Quote:
“Most national reports on the BBC and Sky on OB's are now in HD, and more to the point when reading text on the screen of a 40" or above tv it's always easier on the eye with it being clear and crisp.”

A fair point.

As I haven't. I merely expressed my opinion that HD isn't absolutely essential. I prefer it myself, if it's available. But (unlike some) I would not not watch something just because it was not in HD.

“In my opinion, if you have a larger screen, only HD will do.”

I have a 37" and am happy with SD on it if necessary.

Neither do I. Which is why I have never held that attitude about anything.

Good for you, Carl. I'm glad you are happy with an inferior picture.

However, for some of us, that just won't do.

It's an "inferior" picture that we have "made do with" for many years now.

Like I said, I'll use it in preference to SD if the choice is there. If not then I'm happy with SD.

So you don't watch anything made in B&W either ?

What about SD programmes on HD channels ?

To a point it depends on the TV, the difference is very obvious on any full HD 32" screen I have seen. If the screen isn't actually 1920x1080, the difference will be less obvious.

It's Japanese and Japan is moving towards UHD, HD is their SD.

Having said that, even NHK News is available in a lower resolution online.

It is personal choice but it's also putting resolution over content. The problem being that there is still a lot of content around that wasn't filmed in HD.

Mines only 720p which is probably why i don't notice any difference , it's Toshiba too. Although to be fair i've never had any problems at all with it.
The one i'm getting is a Samsung it's 1080p too.

I agree; I'm for HD as much as anybody, but to refuse to watch content that interests you because it is not in HD I think is completely crazy.

I also wonder about people's TV sets as SD on my 40" Sony TV is perfectly watchable. Do these HD only people need to buy better TV's or need to adjust their current TV's settings?

It also depends on the transmission rates of the content. BBC One SD is way better than MTV SD.

Before MTV HD launched I would not watch anything on MTV SD because it was physically unwatchable.
