Depends on what contracts are already in place and when the deals with Sky expire.
I think we'll certainly see most of the HD channels arrive.
Well that's something to look forward to then.

There are three channels currently testing with labels Channel A, B and C. They are on the same frequencies as other HD channels.

One of the channels is broadcasting some EPG data identical to Sky Sports 3.

Perm any 3 from 5 then as we are missing (in HD) Sports 3, Sports 4, F1, Sports News and Sky News.

it'll probably be SS3, SS4 and SSN in HD.

I can't see sky giving up F1 in HD so easily. like Atlantic.

Also what with politics etc looming ahead in 2015, can't see them giving up Sky News in HD either.

I could be totally wrong though.

Technix the man though for that.

I've now seen limited EPG data for Sky Sports 4 and F1 to finalise things.

There's speculation on another forum naming other channels but the reality is, as with the BT Sport tests I mentioned, the channels have to be important enough for the information to be embargoed. That can only Sky or BT in this market. Nobody really cares if (for example) C&I HD is seen testing and it is leaked ahead of launch.

I take it that any extra Sky Sports HD channels would be just like the others we have and subject to an additional sub?

Yeah they seem to re-packaging their bundles from what i've seen the new bundles are cheaper than exsisting ones.
There will also be a move away from the M, M+, L and XL system introduced by Virgin Media. Liberty Global will give channel packages individual names, as they were in the past.

Some examples are: Big Easy Bundle, Big Kahuna and Big Daddy.

Sorry but your confusing me!

The names you give are some of the renamed bundles to replace the collections. They, as I understand, have nothing to do with renaming TV M through TV XL.

Unless you have some, as yet, unpublished information.

OFCOM rules allow any channel access to Sky's EPG at controlled fees. These channels have nothing to do with Sky apart from providing EPG data.

Virgin has no such rules and is a closed system!

Equally these channels lease bandwidth from SES or Eutelsat. Have any approached Virgin to lease bandwidth on commercial terms?

VM do not, as policy, allow others to rent their bandwidth!

The shopping channels do, by agreement, pay for access - or may have some sort of profit sharing agreement with VM.

VM are entirely in control of which channels are on their system - Sky are not!

I agree Virgin are in control, I'm just asking if any of the channels - like the shopping channels as you have stated, have made any effort to lease bandwidth from Virgin?

I'm curious to find out what the cost would be considering the finite amount of bandwidth available. Is it in fact cost prohibitive considering alternate uses of the bandwidth (such as broadband or on demand).

It 's not just bandwidth of course! There are EPG facilities and such like.

People have - in the past - asked if Sky could themselves run channels like Sky Atlantic on VM cable by paying for access and VM have said "we don't allow that"

Sky, as dominant operator, are even, most unwillingly, forced to allow direct competitors access to the encryption system (Setanta, BT Sport)!

There is a massive difference between not allowing Sky to hijack their platform and a two bob God channel not being able to afford the bandwidth and moaning about it.

Why couldn't they name them with a Virgin flavour: Big Branson, Big Dick, Big Hairy Beard?

Hmm, maybe not the second one, lol, but a great idea otherwise.

Because Mr Branson is a minor share-holder at best and probably wouldn't agree to it anyway.

There is now a mystery Channel D testing however they've not been kind enough to send EPG data.

London Live, Estuary TV and STV Glasgow are showing up in the NAT, but I don't live in these areas so can't confirm if they've launched or are testing I've just not noticed them before.

I know on another forum that enjoys speculating there is talk of a channel reshuffle so I'll throw them a bone that is Virgin broadcasting 2 "channel moved" EPG positions.
