Sky Sports Mix now added to the EPG.
Not here it isn't. Unless it's somewhere other than the sports section...?
Where have you seen it?

Apologies, I got this information from someone else- I forgot he's now with Sky

Are the SSM placeholders testing video and/or audio yet?

Sky have put this on channel 106 in another country, but I suspect it will have to go into the sports genre in the UK due to the EPG regulations.

Current state of play with Sky Sports Mix on Virgin Media:

- The off EPG Sky Sports Mix HD channel shows as being allocated to TSID 23 which is currently carrying 4 Olympics HD channels. It's believed that this will launch when the Olympics finish.

- The off EPG Sky Sports Mix SD channel is now carrying an encrypted video stream.

I suspect that this will be available in the 'More TV' package upwards.

For those with TiVo there's now a promo for Sky Sports Mix in the Discovery Bar.

I guess the launch of this channel sees the end of temporary free periods on the main Sky Sports channels.

It's not Free To Air, but neither will it be a premium channel like the other Sky Sports channels.

It hasn't yet been confirmed which packages it will be in, but I suspect that the SD version will be available in the 'More TV' package upwards, which is basically a Freeview + Sky Basics tier.

The SD version will be on channel 507, with the HD version on 517 being made available to XL package customers upwards.

Didn't know there was one. Actually checked them out less than an hour ago and they were all greyed-out so certainly no-longer in any 'free' period.

They haven't done it for a long while. In fact, I think the last time involved them putting some premium sport on Pick instead of them opening up their sports channels to non premium subscribers.

This is probably better for VM as, unlike satellite, it's a lot more problematic to temporarily open premium channels to the lower tiers.

There has been speculation that this actually involves someone manually doing it! The last free period of Sky Sports on VM went off at something like 4:30am instead of the advertised 6am- seems like s/he wanted to get to bed

Sorry. I think I mis-interpreted your post. I thought I'd just missed a freebie

No problem

Two new channels arrived today:

NDTV India on channel 836 and NDTV Spice on channel 837.

According to MB a new 4K channel called UK Base is "set to launch".

I mean its about time we get the 2 new movie channels, But i just never damn get why they sign a new carriage deal and they only get a few channels?

There is the +1's and movies 4 men 2 and it just annoys me soo much. When they sign new carriage deals they should get them all unless they have exclusive channels for certain providers.

Rant over, that is my 2 cents anyway.....

*Chat transcript from the meeting*

Sony: Hello,

Virgin Media: Hello there, how are you doing?

Sony: Great thanks, And yourself?

Virgin Media: Yes, Doing great. Lets get to business.

Sony: Sure,

Virgin Media: So we need to renew our carriage deal? Anything else to add to our current deal?

Sony: Well Prices have gone up but we can arrange to give you 2 extra channels. But it will cost a bit more to get that new deal with those 2 extra channels.

Virgin Media: Ok, sounds good.

I bet virgin media didnt even try and get more channels in the meeting at all. or if they did try the only reason i could think of was Sony wanted too much for them all.

Which i think is a bit crazy when they are free to air on sky and freesat and on freeview. it is crazy that a company like Sony can charge Virgin Media for carriage of them, when they are free to air channels.

Rant over yet again.

I also fear that this is too little too late. People have been asking for these outstanding movie channels for years and even now the set is incomplete.

The ongoing problems with the TiVo & the cheek to ask for more money for it from November is the last straw for me & many others according to various forums.

I'm now looking at other providers, having been one of their first digital customers.

Personally I do not think that it is worth MovieMix to be on Virgin
because it is already available via Freeview/Freeview Play/YouView
and of course it is a free channel that even the new Now TV Combie box can receive

MovieMix will be on 425 with Movies4Men on 426.

I think that in time they will replace Movies4Men+1 or True Movies 2 with MovieMix on Sky and Freesat so that the latter is available on all platforms.

A bit of nostalgia but I remember Movies 24+ used to be on 425 then prior to that it was Carlton Cinema (ex Telewest) 😊

I doubt most viewers are bothered about a few +1's and 'movies 4 men 2' no longer exists.

Movie mix is only available from Main transmitters on Multiplex COM5 - ARQA - Arqiva A

Those with Virgin TV in a Freeview light area may welcome the addition. I get your point but as I live and get my Freeview signal from Blackhill main transmitter.

With all the money we pay, I expect all FTA channels to be made available on VM as a single point of access.

I don't expect to have to move to another platform and I do expect to be able to record the programming.

Not that this matters as the TiVo is virtually unusable these days and I plan to get shut ASAP!

Ok, i didnt know movies 4 men 2 wasn't on air anymore.

But did anyone else notice that the MTV HD channel that was on channel 100 has vanished? and it hasn't even been moved to the music section either in the 300's. So another channel they thought, oh lets get rid of it.

Seriously VM, why put a channel on then remove it.

I think i am seriously considering leaving VM now. especially as there is yet another price increase too. I AM SICK OF THEM NOW.

It is currently, and has been for a long time, on channel 311. As with all basic pay-HD channels, it's in the XL package. It was made available to all customers for the weekend.
Essentially it was a gift from Virgin to you for the weekend, which it sounds like you appreciated!

Sky Sports Mix HD and Sky Sports Mix SD have now appeared on the EPG.

I receive both on my current XL package.

What other packages is it on?
