That's been the story of cable TV in this country forever, always playing catch up.

We get excited by the launch of new channels that other providers have had since launch, even the free services.

This, along with the useless TiVo and forthcoming price rises have pushed many former loyal customers (me included) over the edge. They're taking the piss now.
How many loyal customers have been pushed over the edge?

My Tivo works fine as do the Tivo's of everyone I know.

Now now, lets keep it civilised

Anyhow, maybe after just reading some news, It seems Liberty Media which owns Liberty Global which in turn owns Virgin media, is in late stages of buying Formula 1, Yes i think this has been mentioned already.

But could this means it then gives Virgin Media more power and maybe take the rights away from sky corp for the showing of f1, could this then mean a new channel for virgin media for f1?

Or would ofcom have something to say about this? would be interesting times ahead, Sky need to get a shafting again. So this could be good news coming in the coming months/years ahead. But only if your into F1 that is hehe, i am a f1 fan myself

^Well I don't think that Liberty will wrestle the rights away from Sky. They know that its probably good for them in the long run to have (one of) your TV companies competitors keep paying for the rights. Its a bit of a win-win for them in that regard.
And it also keeps as many viewers as it can. (aside from being FTA, which is what it should be imo).

At the very least, I would hope it means that Sky are at least dissuaded from making the F1 channel a Sky exclusive.

Still like to see History HD, we have H2 HD so why can't we have History HD?
There's still a possibility that H2 & H2 HD will close in favour of Viceland when it starts on 19/9/16.

Odd that they are only currently stating that they will be on Sky and Now TV though.

Viceland isn't replacing H2 in the UK, that was only in the US.

Virgin took their time getting Spike when it's been a FTA terrestrial channel for a long time and every other platform has had it right from launch date.

Yes. And?

Anyone can launch their own channel on Freeview or Freesat. They can't do that on VM though.

A new deal has been signed between Liberty Global and Netflix that includes their 4K content; so it looks like this is on its way to VM's new TiVo box*.

http://www.broadbandtvnews.com/2016/...-netflix-deal/

*VM staff are currently telling customers that the new box should be out in November.

As VM staff are usually (and have been, historically) the last to know anything I'll believe it when I see it

Me too, I'm just hoping that the new TiVo pricing is announced before my window to cancel because of the price increase expires; so that I can make an informed choice as to what to do.

BBC Radio Cymru Mwy:

This service hoped to launch on 19 September, it is now expected to be late September.

Not sure if this will be available to everybody or in Wales only.

Thankfully the email I got from Virgin says with the price change i can cancel anytime until October 31st, of course you have to give 30 says notice so that's nearly December, so hopefully we should find out.

Thanks, that sounds promising.

I wonder if they are staggering the price rise notifications (and thus the period of the window to cancel) to ease the pressure on the call centre staff??

U know, when i had sky years ago, i do not understand or like those channels *babestation* I just do not get why people would spend all that money ringing or texting at those crazy prices for not even nude content, when you can use the net to find more hardcore material without paying a penny.

I think it will eventually be the end of those type of channels anyway, so in my eyes babestation launching is just a waste of network bandwidth. They could have added something better than that rubbish.

Whilst I do agree with you, these channels actually pay VM to be on the network, so, hopefully, the extra income may benefit us all.

I suspect that this was the F1 deal.

hmm. but how does that benefit VM, it wont benefit us for at least 3 years. And by that time, they might decide to sell there shares again.

Who originally said that there is some good news coming? which user was it in the other cable forum?

The F1 deal doesn't benefit Virgin Media in any way.

Liberty Media bought F1, not Liberty Global which owns VM. They are different companies, albeit with a common shareholder (John Malone).

Liberty Global put forward their own bid for F1 but didn't succeed.

Here's a graphic showing the various different Liberty companies and what they own http://i68.tinypic.com/25675nk.jpg
