Interesting. I guess it's not his fault but maybe MEDIABOY needs to employ some new 'insiders'. Some that don't seemingly just make things up would be a good idea!

I agree he needs new Insiders as the old ones were rubbish, they only told him about The Africa Channel when it was about to launch
and then after a few hours it was all over the Virgin Media Forums anyway and he never informed us about the delay in launching, also they have not told him about any new HD channels recently that are going to launch |

It's him and that thread that propagate the myth that everything is "coming soon" with Virgin Media. In many cases all he does is keep a list of channels and keep pushing them back every few months.

I wonder who MEDIABOY is? I have often wondered if he is a Media Journalist or perhaps some some of a Consultant?

I do not know who Mediaboy is either, he has never revealed himself to us
Seems to me, he is damned if he does, and damned if he doesn't. Some people hang onto his every word - I have learned not to believe anything until it happens, although I do with Virgin would use the Tivo message facility to keep up updated better. I have no doubt he is genuine, and probably a thoroughly nice bloke - but anyone is only as good as the info given, and we do not know how well placed his sources are ...... |

Is anything launching?
I'm kind of looking at my options at the moment. I thought ITV2/3/4 HD was definitely launching, and maybe CBS Drama and Sony Movies. MEDIABOY did build all this up by making a big announcement at a certain time, it was almost as fact. Sky News HD sounded plausible because it clearly isn't an exclusive Sky Channel as UPC have it. |

It wouldn't surprise me if Sky News HD does indeed launch in December. Perhaps someone at VM has let slip something they shouldn't have done just yet due to a confidentiality clause... time will tell.

Hi everyone, don't post on the forums very often, but thought I would do a comparison for you from someone who has gone from virgin tv xl and 1gb tivo over to Sky+ hd world just over a month ago. Just to note, I still have the tivo on tv size m+ and I have phone and internet with virgin too, at least until sep 2013
Well where do I start, comparisons for me personally and pros and cons: 1) Virgin still has the edge in VOD compared to sky, a lot more content. 2) Virgins VOD loads instantly, no downloading! Sky has to download but not all of it has to be before you can start watching, I find an average SD movie is available to watch in about 5 seconds, and hd one in about the same, maybe 30 seconds to 2 minutes in busy traffic time. 3)no worrying about box going wrong after 1 year. 4)tivo's 3 tuners and search capability cons for virgin: 1) Lack of channels, too much hearsay on channels coming or not as the case is 2) HD so much extra content compared to Virgin its unbelievable. 3) VOD their catch up for the sky channels is more comprehensive and almost all of it in HD. They already have itv player, 5 on demand and bbc iplayer from tuesday. 4od from spring 2013. 4) Skys 2TB BOX, am tempted to get this, something virgin don't offer as yet. I'm not on here to big up one or the other my main reason for leaving or 'downgrading' was the lack of channels especially in HD. If virgin can seriously pull their finger out I may consider ditching Sky next september when my half price deal comes to an end, but I can't see it happening. My frustration about waiting for new channels got the better of me in the end! I know a lot of people want Sky Atlantic, and yes it is a good channel and would be a welcome addition to Virgin's line up but it doesn't show anything you couldn't get from anywhere else. Everyone is with who they choose to be unless they can't erect a dish that is, Virgin does offer a really good product on the surface but when you get down to the nitty gritty tv channels are what most people want, and for that Sky is for now the place to be.

Good points and I'd agree. Point 3 however in the 'cons'. I'm not sure I'm understanding what you mean?

As per Ben, BBC Alba and S4C start on a national basis from Tuesday. They will be in the M pack.

He's also started to sign posts recently as "MediaBoy HQ". He's certainly on an ego trip, whoever he is. Problem is, CableForum regulars all worship the ground he walks on and you daren't question or criticise him.

He has been taking a lot of stick on CF in the last few days. His contacts have been almost totally discredited and I doubt whether many will take much notice from now on.
I must say this as it is true but when I was a cable customer he did often contact me as he knew I have a DVB-C equipped TV (Samsung). I used to do the odd search and I would point out if anything popped up. The trouble was I never really found out anything other than a few test channels but then he seemed to equate that to new channels, but he then further seemed to attach a name to the test channels I found. But the test channels were more often than not just that, tests. Nothing usually followed. So if I was classed as an insider it is no real surprise his sources are, to say the least, unreliable, In fairness to him I thought he might have some better sources recently but it appears not. Maybe Virgin staff are feeding him a pile of bull to catch people out? Either way I doubt anybody will take the blindest bit of notice of what he says in future, it's almost certainly mostly nonsense.

IMO someone is feeding him duff info to string him along, now whether that is an enterprising member of staff or someone just having a laugh who knows.
The other channels (CBS Drama, ITV 2-4 HD), have yet to materialise although they were said to be with us sometime during October. So we could be in for a big treat sometime in November, but we wouldn't know it yet! ...And don't anybody dare read anything into that! |

It's people posting rumour that feeds into this "coming soon = sometime in the next ten years" feeling that surrounds VM. |
