As the episode 1 thread has started early, I thought I'd better get this one up too.

Personally, series 6 was brilliant for me. There were some duff episodes (Night Terrors I felt was bland, and The God Complex was completely lacking in structure IMO), but overall, my average score for series 6 was 8.3/10, up from series 5's 7.8/10 (I have loooked at my scores and recalculated the average to 1 decimal place.)

I am expecting from all the hype and reviews, that Asylum of the Daleks will acheive a very high score indeed. Whether series 7 will improve on series 6's score, well...

Rules (you dont have to follow these if you don't want )

(i) Episodes must be given a score /10. No half points etc.

(ii) I usually do not count the christmas special as it usually comes months after the end of the series. This year is no exception. In order to fairly compare series 7 to series 6, I am discounting the christmas special from my average score. I will still post a score /10 when I can though, just for fun

(iii) There are no other rules. Post what you like about the episode, what you didn't like etc, and have fun!

How do you think series 7 will fare, judging from trailers etc, and snippets of info some of us know? 2 days to go, do you think your scores will improve on the last 2 years, be the same, or go down slightly?

Of course, it's hard to get a great idea before even the first episode has aired, but I think that generally Series 7 will ultimately be a lot more successful than Series 6 - which receives what I'd guess is the most mixed response from viewers out of all six series to date.

But yes, I'd wager that with the refreshing change of companion six episodes in, the hopefully fantastic conclusion to the story of the Ponds, and some high-budget adventures that aren't quite so wrapped up and lost in an ongoing arc (something which let down a number of stories in Series 5 and 6)... we could very much be on to the best series with Matt Smith so far.

I'll post my scores just as soon as the episode airs.
Series 6 had an average score of 9.036 for me.
Let's see if Series 7 can do better.

from what I can gather episode 4 is going to be a Doctor Lite story that focuses on Amy and Rory's relationship. (The Power of Three)

I really hope it's not this years turkey having waited since christmas for a measily 5 episodes

Don't worry, there's plenty of Doctor in episode 4! Though if anything stands out from the other episodes, it looks like this episode will divide opinion

Last year's Doctor light story was a highlight. And cleverly done to disguise the unbearable lightness of Doctoring.

Yes, other than the first ever Doctor Lite, they always do something really clever to make up for the lack of the Doctor.
I'm not at all worried.

Asylum of the Daleks: 9/10

A bit slow to start, but otherwise, a fantastic episode!

Asylum of the Daleks: 9/10 (-1 for being a few confusing moments, but overall very epic)!!!

Asylum of the Daleks 9/10

A very different kind of Dalek story, as most of it didn't contain the Daleks! Moffat's publicity stunt of "Every Dalek EVER!" was not very nice, but I tried to watch this episode without thinking about that, as I found out about the falseness of that claim last week.

The Dalek Prime Minister was interesting as a leader, more interesting than Emperors have been. It would be nice if he was referred to as the Dalek Prime from now on though. That would please many fans and check in with non-canon references.

Oswin's ending was very interesting indeed, nice to get into some Dalek psychology there which worked very well.

Best part of the episode was where Rory was alone with the inactive Daleks... EX EX EX EX EX TER... EXTER MIN NATE! -- VERY creepy

However, next time I hope they go all out for a Resurrection of the Daleks style shoot em up or something more action packed

9/10

Spoiler
And the Daleks forgetting the Doctor... it will be interesting to see how that works out.

Hmm

I'd say 6/10.

Spoiler
Well, the Amy and Rory stuff seemed rather pointless and unneeded. Amy and Rory becoming Dalek drones also didn't go anywhere and just seemed like a major plot hole, the classic daleks were under used, especially when they were so trumped up before hand, the ending with forgetting the Doctor, while interesting just seemed stupid to me and the whole pacing felt slow at the beginning, but suddenly incredibly rushed at the end. Also the Daleks didn't really feel threatening, not like in the classic series, and while Human Daleks have been done before, this one felt sloppily handled.

That all being said, I liked the scenes in the parliment in the Daleks, especially when he was talking with the emperor, that was creepy yet at the same time awesome. The Dalek drones were cool (though the woman seemed kinda too human), and the undead ones were incredibly creepy, though in my mind they undermined the Daleks in terms of fear and threat. Also the dark and grimy atmosphere of the whole thing was cool.

Though to be honest, until they return to serials and are made a lot more ruthless, scheming, intelligent and all around more evil, I don't think the Daleks will really be anywhere near as good as they were in the classic series

So yes, a 6/10, not that good an episode, but far FAR better than a lot of others (e.g. Daleks in Manhatten *shudder*)

Is there any chance I can give this an 11? I've given episodes a 10 in the past and now I feel stupid because this was the best episode of Doctor Who I've ever seen.

Asylum of the Daleks

Loved it. Best Dalek episode since "Dalek" and best opening episode since...well, ever. It literally was everything Doctor Who should be- exciting, scary, emotional and shocking. There wasn't a single moment that I didn't hugely enjoy. Well done Moffat!

It loses a mark because the old Daleks did not feature much and the episode was hyped for "every Dalek ever" which was a tad misleading. Apart from that, it was the perfect Doctor Who episode.

9/10.

This is the closest thing to an "Out of Ten... Eleven." Comment we've got

But:

Asylum of the Daleks: 9/10

Asylum of the Daleks: 9/10

A few more Classic Daleks scattered around would have been better, but overall, it was everything a Doctor Who episode should be. Best Dalek episode since "Dalek" and a great start to Series 7!

Tough one to mark.

Loved the new companion story line but found the actual Dalek story somewhat run of the mill 'Ghost train' 'Haunted house' stuff. But baring in mind the many kids that haven't seen these scenarios it must have been behind the sofa stuff, so I don't have great problems with the story.

But there were so many great things about the episode beyond the basic premise which made the episode for me, the new companion twist marks it up a lot.

Asylum Of The Daleks 10/10

What a sublime episode....Only seen it the once (and will rewatch it soon...maybe tomorrow) But damn so many memorable moments and very distinctive...The Moff has done the unthinkable....created a genuinely haunting Dalek storyline for Nu-Who AND IMO created the greatest Dalek story yet (now i know genesis has its fans and yes "Dalek" was very good too) but the level of dread, pace, action, sheer WTF epicness that paced the episode truly made it why i love Doctor Who so much! It truly was and is a classic episode! It felt like a mini film also i mean they used 50 minutes perfectly...the amount of twists were brilliant too...the idea of humanoid Daleks really was expertly done and quite horrific. The use of the asylum like a labyrinth in itself was genius!

Matt, Karen and Arthur as always were top..and Jenna (what a twist!) has made a fantastic debut onto the series! And i really do wonder what The moff has in store with her.

But third in the row perfect series opener...and one of the greatest episodes of Doctor Who ever!
