...and not in the "it's shockingly bad" way.

Lana Del Rey- Off to the Races

The girl in the song...she's a teenager...and
she's having sex with an older man who's probably
her dad.

Nine Inch Nails - Closer.

Not really shocking, but still a good song!

I'm amazed he managed to get the "from the inside"
line past the record execs....

I think If You Seek Amy by Britney was so blantant in it's innuendo, that was pretty shocking, IMO.

"Whistle" by Flo Rida is another one that isn't exactly so subtle either...

My Game of Loving by White Noise.

Not really shocking but it's such a great song that you tend to forget about the orgasm solo halfway through and that can make car journeys a bit awkward when giving your nan a lift to the shops.

'Whistle' is one for me too - that's MUCH more blatant than S and M which was bleeped to hell by radio 1 when released.

'212' shocked me a little the first time because I hadnt heard that word used by a woman in a song that was played on the radio before, or in such a positive context. I know it was bleeped on the radio but still.

Eminem's 'Stan' the first time I heard it too. Wow...

It only reached number 25 here, maybe it was "watered down" for the charts

An old one, but I remember watching open mouthed when The Divynyls performed 'I Touch Myself' on TOTP.

Katy Perry- I Kissed A Girl not in the least shocking but for a mainstream pop song raised a few eyebrows

Lykke Li singing "I'm your prostitute" in Get Some.
Daydream in Blue by I-Monster - I only realised that the vocodered part has some very, erm, interesting lyrics a couple of years ago!

How did you come to that conclusion

This is no more shocking than her other lyrics.
Here's the lyricsmake me think that "Off to the Races" is
about a young girl shacked up with a dodgy older bloke:

My old man is a bad man
But I can't deny the way he holds my hand
...He loves me with every beat of his cocaine heart
"Old man" can mean either male partner or father
(and she wouldn't say "old man" if he was close
to her age):

http://dictionary.reference.com/browse/old+man

Light of my life, fire of my loins

Be a good baby, do what I want
This is a reference to Vladimir Nabokov's novel
"Lolita" (twice filmed) about a creepy old guy
in love with a young girl (just like LDR's song):

http://www.independent.co.uk/arts-en...t-2290351.html

God I'm so crazy baby
I'm sorry that I'm misbehaving
I'm your little harlot, starlet
Queen of Coney Island
Raising Hell all over town
Sorry 'bout it
I think the "Little harlot" line means the woman singing
the song is in a sexually relationship at a young age
(16? Younger? ).

Well, that's my interpretation of the song....

Yes its my conclusion too but i think your over thinking its mostly about how he accepts her failings and revels in the fact she is young and has lived a bad and wild existence but now she is in the money with him and she is enjoying the saftey and security of a relationship whilst he enjoys he has a young Lolita figure whom he has saved per say not too shocking as older is open to interpretation some may think its 3 some 4 some 10 years so she could be 16 and he mid twenties.

But equally it could be about a parasitic relationship in which neither person can function without the other and are living a hedonisitic existence in which the relationship will ultimately fail.

It's the same conclusion as mine but its meant to be obvious as are all the other songs its a reference to forbidden relationships and the excesses of money and living the highlife and as long as she is not like Lolita (12) then its not in the least shcoking many younger people are drawn to older people and she paints it ina seductive sensuous manner rather than a shocking one per say but we all have different hock thresholds i suppose
When I was in secondary school (mid-90s) there
was a girl I fancied who said her ideal man wasn't Brad Pitt or
Gary Barlow but Robert De Niro, so I suppose you're
right.

The first time I heard P.J. Harvey's "Sheela-Na-Gig"
I was shocked- I'd never heard anything racier than
Madonna on TOTP, so hearing her sing so
frankly and so well about, er, "woman's bits"
was a bit embarassing (but I also realised how good
a singer she was, even back then ).

Quite a common one I expect, but I did not realise at first that Cee Lo Green's - Forget You actually sounds like this when not played on the radio.

1984 Roland. You're showing your age there a bit.

I don't think that's a very daring song-and she doesn't
even kiss a girl in the video!

Meanwhile, Christina Aguliera's "Beautiful" video, six years
earlier, actually had a scene of two men kissing
(which would have been somewhat risky for
a US singer, given there's a much stronger
anti-gay rights lobby there than in Europe).
I didn't have any problems with the video, but
when we discussed at work the next day, one
of the men there said he thought the scene
was "disgusting".

Well, I politely pointed out that I didn't see
anything wrong with gay men having
romantic relationships or seeing it
in a video. He mumbled something
about us having different opinions
and then we changed the subject.
