Dolly Parton's I Will Always Love You (Houston's was an inferior cover version) wasn;t even about that. She wrote it for her erstwhile boss, Porter Wagoner, whose TV show she firast came to prominence on but which she left as he professionally stifled her development as an artiste.

Houston's was an inferior cover? Have you heard Dolly Parton's version? She sounds like a dying cat which is why they made fun of it in the movie. It's horrendous. Whitney gave that song finesse. Dolly Parton can sing, but her singing that song makes me want to cut my ears off.

I have heard various versions by Dolly and they are all great, infused with genuine emotion. Unlike the Houston travesty, where she seems to think throwing in umpteen superfluous notes will somehow pass for great emotion....probably something to do with the drugs!

Whitney's version is horrible, just horrible. It bludgens the sweet, pure original by Dolly to death and all those bombastic power chords and ululating just destroy the genuine emotion of the song.

I saw Dolly singing it live and it was sublime.

"Pretty In Pink" by the Psychedelic Furs is not about a girl in a pink dress (John Hughes take note.)

It's about the girl being pretty naked

(so imagine my disappointment when I saw the movie with Molly Ringwald in a bloody pink dress haha).

I love how that song is far darken than the film made it seem.

Did we know something he didn't or did he know something we didn't?”

"Marry You" by Bruno Mars is another one that people think is sweet and play at weddings, but from the looks of the lyrics its all about a guy and a girl who are drunk and decide to get married. Not exactly a love song - people just hear the words 'love' and 'marriage' and think its a sentimental love song lol!

The lyrics are actually "He's big and he's bad" but that is funny.
