Roll on November, when the 12 month "get out of jail" contract ends and I plan to move away from BT. The question then will be whom - that'll be one for Martin Lewis' website to answer methinks.

Thats crap. BT are already one of the dearest and price just went up 9 or 10 months ago. BT do offer a good service 98% of the time but they will lose customers if they keep putting there prices up.

There's not much hope of an escape as even Sky are increasing line rental charges

"September 1st, any new customer joining Sky talk for line rental will pay £14.50 a month. Existing customers will stay at £12.25 a month" - now that is a price hike!!! How long existing customers remain unaffected is anyone's guess.

It's getting harder to find a good deal.

I agree with you. Im still with BT for they are the only ones that offer fiber optic broadband to the area at the moment. I have been 98% happy with BT but they are starting to get very dear.
Even Scottish Hydro(SSE) who we are with for electric are to go up in price in the next few months. Yet I have not had a pay increse in the last 14 months or so.

Other providers can and do make use of BT's fibre network such as Sky, TalkTalk, ADSL24 and AAISP to name a handful. Just to show you don't have to always eat out of BT's hand!

i am so happy that I don't have line rental any more, just a shame more people don't have that choice.

Line rental goes up and yet people get nothing more for it, If Bt improved the network it would not be so bad, but it still uses copper cables that are falling apart.

ney. i know what you mean about SSE, I am with Atlantic, who are owned by SSE and i am now thinking of looking elsewhere.

We moved from Scottish Power to Scottish Hydro(SSE) just over a year ago as they was cheaper for electric but now im not to sure they will be when the price increses come in the next few months.

Not quite. You can buy FTTC from other ISPs.. just that they'll liaise with openreach..

But sky and Talk Talk will only offer FTTC in places where they have their own LLU network.
ADsl24 and other small ISPs will offer FTTC anywhere as long as it is available, but they will cost more than BT.

No mention of any Infinity fibre price increases in any of the links so far posted, this is good.

Picking out individual bits of the package and quoting them as massive percentage increases is what I did to Sky's imminent price increases - interestingly though I didn't notice the press go to town on that as they have for BT. Perhaps they should, as there are some big percentage increases in there, too.

BT and Sky are it would seem as bad as each other for raising prices above inflation in these hard times, and perhaps because they've both got to fund their massive Premiership football deals, which the rest of us might just might be subsidising... hmmm, i wonder?

I find this rise very excessive they should put their prices down not up as they are already far too expensive compared to other suppliers!

Material detriment = Retention deals or switch.

In 2011 O2 raised the prices on Landline and Broadband. I came away £5.00 better off a month after speaking with retentions.

TalkTalk 2012 raised the prices on Landline by £0.70 a month, I came away £2.00 better off a month.

Spaek to your energy providers and fix your rates before the price increases. Once one rises they all follow.

Mobile phone providers have become cowards and hide behind the Retail Price Index as it is contracted you have to aeecpt it until your contract expires then you haggle!

Line rental is for the rental of the line and voice equipment int he exchange, it got nothing to do with broadband.

i do agree that rural areas do normally get a bad deal from Broadband, but that is nothing to do with line rental.

What annoys me is that all the money Bt gets from line rental and yet their copper cable system is falling apart and if it needs fixing it is bodged.

BTOR are a seperate company to retail products. Prob due to regulation and a tax dodge.

That is what we are suppose to think and that is also what the EU is suppose to think. But we all know it is a large fib and BTOR, Bt retail and BT wholesale is the same company.

BT's call connection fee will go up to 13.87p.

People are tending to use their mobile which offer better value for money with more flexibility. So BT have to make up for this by increasing prices.

Looking at the prices how can they make custom £18.85 for broadband option 1 which has a usage limit then £15 odds line rental on top when Tesco offer unlimited broadband and line rental with eve and weekend calls for £16.75 a month!

As much as I would prefer to go direct to BT you would have to be a mug to pay they prices!
