Wouldnt have been quite the same with a macho bloke performance. Suppose thats how TV entertainment goes

PMSL! The camp would've gone hungry if Natalie had been told to do it!

It's commonsense for anyone in that situation to realise that there wouldn't be king cobras or Black Widow spiders in the holes. His enemy was fear - his own lack-of-bottle fears.

The emus don't have hands, and they would still do a better job than scaredly-butler. And as for Janet, no problem.

He could have been asked to climb down a ladder unfurling flags wearing a harness....that's bordering on the heroic apparently.....

That was great TV though. More my style of getting on with the business. Scaredly-Butler would rather go hungry for 100 years than unfurl one flag. He would no doubt soil himself had it been him instead of Joe.

Ok it was very funny especially Ant and Dec laughing but I think it was false and forced and he went down a bit in my estimation with that.

In fact the scardly-bulter would have done the task anyway...even though he was scared...It never really bothered the dull comic so it wasn't that much of a challenge was it....

I believe he was genuinely scared of snakes, but you are right in the sense that he is too much of the drama queen in doing his tasks.

Peter Andre was scared silly in lying in a tank full of spiders in the last series, even though he was terrified of spiders. But he was much better behaved than Paul.

Oh cmon, fear of snakes, fear of spiders - these are deep archaic instincts that were selected by evolution because they guaranteed the survival of our species. Rationality is a thin veneer on top of that.
And anyway: surely the overcoming of one's fears is the very definition of having bottle...?

How is overcoming deepset fears by gurning and acting like a girlie man, way too OTT and disgracing your two teenage sons on national TV be a definition of having bottle?

Scaredly-Butler has gone down a lot in my estimation, nice decent bloke he may be.

Evolution should have removed his line many generations ago by your analysis.

That would be entirely up to them to decide, not you. And judging by the fact that your are in a tiny minority here, as most of the rest of us think it made fantastic TV, I rather think you may have it wrong.

I find the camp man very entertaining.
I find the macho man to be a mere passenger.

So would a scardy-cat have gone all the way and got 5 stars? Dont think so! Even when he realised his worst nightmare was in the 5th hole he still went ahead and got that star even though he didnt have to do it. He's a hero, and an entertaining one at that!

Please do not think I'm a party pooper. It was good TV, and quite enjoyable.

But at what cost?

In me, it left the overall impression of a burly man squealing like a girlie man. It still filled me with disgust.

I suspect that the majority of those who enjoy the Scaredly-Butler show are really laughing with ridicule at the girlie man, and not with him.

It was funny...... And i am sure his Sons would have been proud... after all he did not sing

He went for it...... took it real steady wih the rats and snakes.....
I for one, would not stick my hand in a hole without knowing what's in there!!

After al, he could have left the fifth hole....
No way he is a scardey cat!

I tend to agree with you, I thought there was an air of 'theatrical fear' about it. I mean, come on, you shove your hand in a hole with a bit of slime and some critters? What's the worst that's gonna happen? You get a bit of a nip, that's all.
It was funny all the same, esp A + D trying not to giggle, nbut heroic? I don't think so.

I think you may have a point in his peaking too early.

Tomorrow is another day and with all the contestants involved in the trial together, Paul's scaredy cat routine would look downright silly compared to the resolute and forthright Janet or even Fran, who is coming on silently without a fuss in this last stretch.

Of course we were! That still doesn't mean that we found it disgusting or that we would feel disgraced by him if he was our father! But don't worry, your post has given me more of an insight into your reasons for disliking him than you know.

I haven't bothered to get involved in this debate because it's been pretty stupid TBH.

Paul was tonight's winner.

But your absolutely right Iknowicould, tomorrow's show will probably trash Paul no end showing either Joe or Janet at their very best. If so, I can only hope that Fran outshines them all on the final day. I would really like an outsider to win this if Paul is doomed

Voluntarily, no, not ever, but if, for some insane reason, I had to, I would have certainly greeted the rats with something other than "move over darling"...

I take my hat off to the guy!
