Chose Amy.

Made an Amy's Choice.

Okay, that was bad.

Gotta be Donna.
CTs performance in 'Turn Left' alone warrants my vote.
Outstanding.

Can't decide between Rose & Martha for second place.

Loved Amy in her first episode, but it's been downhill from there to be honest.

Donna by a country mile, though I love all of them, particularly Rose and River as well

Looking at this list and looking at the previous one there is a massive step up in quality from then to now IMO. Hard to choose between Amy and Donna but I went for Amy in the end.

River's in a bit of a unique position in that she's not really a companion, but she knows the Doctor better than any of them. I was going to vote for her, but didn't because i don't really class her as a companion as such.

I loved Martha, but she was badly let down by the stupid unrequited love idea, and I figured it would be a bit of a wasted vote as she wasn't likely to come top 2 anyway, she doesn't get a lot of love on this forum.

Donna was great, but slightly annoying at times, and in my opinion not as brilliant as many others on here think.

Rose I loved at the time, but on rewatch she's become increasingly irritating, and I really disliked her in Turn Left/The Stolen Earth/Journey's End - I'd forgotten how selfish the character actually was.

So that leaves Amy, my favourite companion of all the Doctor Who I've watched, so she got my vote

My vote goes to Donna. Excellent companion, acted very well. I think Amy is brilliant. I love her to bits. But Donna's story trumps Amy's. River isn't a companion. She's his wife. Martha was badly let down by the love story. Shame. Because she was on some good stories and did well in them. Rose was superb in series one. Loved her and loved her family. I don't know whether showing her and the Doctor as hubristic in series two was deliberate or not, but it didn't endear us to her. But she was still ok by the end of that.

It was a mistake to bring Rose back in series four.

It is interesting that Karen and Arthur have said they don't want a,cameo return. (at least not yet - wait until the seventy fifth anniversary!)

Am I alone in not wanting to judge companions by their body parts? Sometimes I think I'm just a grumpy old lefty.

Not saying that beautiful people arent beautiful or anything. but is that it? (for the avoidance of doubt, I'm an adonis, naturally).

Nah, just joking, obviously it's not just that! I do think Amy is a a really good character with a really good backstory. So clever how we get to see her as a child, then an adult etc. Hopefully, when she leaves in a couple of weeks we'll revisit her as a child, after all Caitlin Blackwood is almost as much Amy as Karen is. Be a fitting ending as well, maybe the Doctor changes history so they never meet after something awful happens, although that would mess up the timeline+the River stuff. Also, you cant really say I'm only bothered about looks, Billie Piper (while not as good looking as Karen) isnt exactly ugly yet I never really cared for Rose. However I'll be so sad when Amy leaves, she and Rory are my favourite companions, and Amy's much more likeable than RTD companions such as Rose (except Martha, I found her a likeable character. Donna on the other hand, just irritating. I think the only reason people like her so much is cos they were expecting her to be awful+just there for laughs cos she's Catherine Tate).

Thanks for explaining! Looks like I am just a grumpy old lefty! and proud.

I thought donna was genuinely good as a stand alone good character. I didn't know she was going to be the companion until a couple of weeks before. (i didn't read any websites in those days and no tabloids). I was a fan of her comedy show and was pleasantly surprised.

Binary binary binary.

Donna was alright for a couple of episodes and episodes like Partners in Crime and Unicorn and the Wasp are real fun. An entire series plus half of the end of time got a bit tiring in the end though. Probably not surprising Midnights my favourite episode in series 4. Prefer her to Rose though, sexy as hell but, if I'm honest, she's a bitch. Martha and Amy are much more likeable characters for me. And dont be ashamed to be a lefty, I'm as left wing as they come without just being communist (though their more like fascists), even though, if I'm honest, Karen Gillan's good looks is a big reason I'll miss her It'll also mean the end of my favourite TARDIS team though, 11 wont be the same without Amy

I do love Amy too. And Rory. And River. I think they're the best team tardis since (insert personal favourite here). I'm really not looking forward to their final story.

My personal favourite is them! Their all brilliant and have really good+interesting relationships/dynamics, prefer them to any other cast in the shows history, their just all great together. Particularly love Rory (though not as much as Amy for obvious reasons). Most of the male companions (except Jack Harkness who doesent count cos he has a plastic face and is insanely irritating) in post-2005 Who have had an irritating habit of being spineless idiots who seem incapable of being on an equal footing with the Doctor or being rivals to the Doctor while the writers have seemed to take pains over making the female companions strong+independent. Rory's very different though, he started out as meek etc but over the course of series 5+6 was elevated to full time comapnion and then evolved into the last centurion! I'd love it if, when he left, Rory evolveed into this big, powerful figure on an equal footing with the Doctor (maybe he should somehow become this big time traveller guy to save Amy, change her history, and his own at the cost of his version of Rory living alone for eternity), he shouldnt die again, that just wouldnt be taken seriously.

Karen's said that several times now and as much as I'd love to see Amy and Rory again, I think she's wise - Rose's character was ruined for me by her reappearance. It does depend on the story though - I loved the reappearances of Martha and Sarah Jane.

I don't judge any companions on their looks, I only do that for the Doctors

I think Karen is wise for that too.

For all those that are wondering, the solitary vote for Grace(thus far) came from me!

I just think Grace is a great companion who never had the chance to fulfil her potential because of two things. One, the fact a series didn't got made from the TV Movie and two, that it's not known if she would have returned as she never went of with the Doctor in the first place!

In reference to the above comments, I don't just like Grace for her looks(nice as they are) but for her superb personality as well. She was sassy, she had this great sense of humour which complemented McGann's Doctor perfectly and I think the two of them could have gone onto greater things with or without the kissing! Like Donna, she wasn't this stunning twenty-something that most companions are, that's why she stands out for me. During the companion threads I did a while back, I was going to add one on for Grace but for some reason she always seems the forgotten character in the TV Movie so I didn't bother. When people discuss it, they talk about McGann, McCoy, Roberts, even Chang-Lee, but poor old Grace never gets a mention which is why I always take any opportunity to discuss her on this forum to remind people she was actually in that Movie!

Daphne Ashbrooke played the role to utter perfection for me, a damn shame she never got the chance to play the role again!

I would have voted for Rose had she not been in the Poll, but I just couldn't let Grace go without even one vote! I still prefer her to any of the New Series companions so far because her humour is the closest to what I like to see in a companion.

ABA (Anyone But Amy)

Donna for me, just behind Sarah Jane as best companion ever IMO.
